Re: log: luke & jack, silent hill
As soon as he managed to get the flashlight on, Luke wished he'd just left it alone. The light only illuminated the horror, and maybe it was better not to see what was out there; maybe it was better to just run like hell and not look back. Hearing the monsters approach, seemingly from everywhere, was bad enough. And whatever was calling his name (he could hear it, he swore he could) wasn't there to help.
He let Jack handle the flashlight. And he should have known, maybe, that the light would just attract these things, but he didn't think of it, and he stupidly froze when the light passed over the leg-creature and sent it scuttling toward them. It was even more grotesque this time, somehow, and he aimed his gun at the thing with hands that shook from the cold. How could even be this cold? Was that water dripping, somewhere? A woman crying? But then Jack was saying they had to run, voice loud, and that snapped him back to the present. To reality. As soon as he grabbed his arm, Luke took off running right alongside his friend. He could hear the leg-thing scuttling along behind them, but they could be faster, they had to be faster.
When the sounds of pursuit didn't abate, he took a chance and fired a shot behind them, a glance over his shoulder, and that seemed to slow the monster down. But around them, as they ran, Luke could see things coming out of the warped buildings. Bodies, wrapped in barbed wire and bandages, so mangled they weren't even really human anymore, and they all looked familiar. He made himself look away, and tried to run faster.
