plot swap - reveal
Who: Steve Rogers
What: Reveal~
Warnings/Rating: Nah.
With the dawn came memory.
All that he had forgotten returned, remembrance slipping stealthily back into place as though it had never been gone at all. He knew. He knew his name, he knew his past, and he knew what he'd hoped to escape by taking that clean slate; of course it was only temporary. He remembered, now, that he'd expected as much before everything went blank.
It hadn't been a terrible evening. It was nice, to forget. To be free of guilt, to not remember that each day was a struggle, to be blind to death's presence just over his shoulder. He didn't regret it. He couldn't.
As for his body, well, that was a different story. The clothing he found himself in wasn't what he'd been wearing beforehand, and he wasn't stupid; he had a fair idea of what had gone on the night before. Thirty seconds, that was how long he gave himself to decide whether or not he wanted to know. Tick, tick, tick, and he decided he didn't. He didn't care. Dwelling on the past had gotten him nowhere, hadn't it? Why obsess over that which he could not change? Whatever had happened, whoever had been in his body, it didn't matter. Forward, remember? Not back.
The one minor complication, save for his clothing (which very much not suit the time period) was the fact that he wasn't where he should have been. Days and days of riding, before, of countryside beyond the city, and he'd finally found somewhere to stay. It had been chance, perhaps, that he'd been recognized on the road; the man had used a name not his own, but that was fine. He could shed his old name here; it did not belong. And so he'd been led to a villa, his, it seemed, and so he had stayed.
But he hadn't had the chance to investigate further, and now? Now he was back in the city, in Florence, on a rooftop where he was sure to be spotted soon.
Ah, but it was a challenge, no? Find proper clothes. Escape notice. Get back to the villa. Bruce had always liked challenges. He put the night before from his mind, and focused instead on the task at hand.
