[The second stories wavers, the walls becoming fluid as she runs out of the room and down the stairs. She's in one of his t-shirts and a pair of knee highs and panties as she comes to a skidding halt at the basement door, which disappears and becomes an archway when she reaches for the doorknob. The stairs down slope, incline, and it's hard to keep balance as she slips down, toes pressing against the newly steep floor.] Harry? Harry, where are you?

[He is in the bottom level garage, his groans can be heard bouncing off of the walls and up the stairs from that level. It sounds as if he's crying, not from agony, but from pain. His is a wincing, keening pain. He sounds like a dog begging to be put down, he pleads at nothing and screams again.

In the garage, the lights are bright and the cars are many. Lines of cars, collectors items that are never driven by his father or himself. The cars are not dusty, they are well kept, but a dozen sit in the room, making quiet columns. The light above is a wide beam of fluorescence, it illuminates everything save for the shadows low cast by the cars. Nothing seems to move within, not even when Gwen steps in.

There is a red tool chest against one wall, its middle drawer open with tools spilled out across the cement floor. Amongst the fallen tools is a syringe and an unlabeled bottle with two drops of electric lime green fluid left inside. Whatever it is, it had been well hidden. These cars were so unused that nobody would ever look in there.]

[Spider-Man was already dressed when he responded to that message of green slime. It doesn't take long for him to figure out that Gwen has made the manor a moving funhouse and follows the activity down to the garage. Dressed in his classic Spidey gear, he webs Gwen's feet to the floor and then swings over her, putting himself between the rest of the garage and Gwen. He frowns at the sound. He knows what this is.] Hey, buddy.

[He puts his hands up cautiously. He catches sight of that green instantly and feels his stomach turn.] Harry. You don't have to do any of this. I trusted you with Gwen. Who cares if some people who don't know you did or not? It's okay. We're all going to figure this out. You don't have to do that.

[The sounds break her heart, and she's looking between cars and underneath them when she feels the webs that bind her feet to the ground. She doesn't immediately panic about being unable to move, because the familiar sight of red and blue is still soothing in the same way that it was back in high school - as long as he isn't doing something completely stupid. But she's glad to see him right then, this Peter Parker whose feelings about her she can never quite logic. It's easy to forget that, too, when she can't see his face.

She looked toward the sound when it comes again, and she opens her mouth to talk. But Peter's saying something about trusting Harry, and she wonders why Doctor Banner and Jason mattered so much. And then she notices the hints of green near the syringe.

It's wrong. It's not like it was when she went home, but she still understands. Her brain whirs trying to think of logical solutions to the problem at hand, but her brain kicking into overdrive just makes things go haywire lately. The cars shrink to nothing, match cars and now there's space in the garage, and she's looking for something familiar and green, and the webbing is gone from her foot. She takes a step forward, but she doesn't say anything.]

[When the cars shrink, Harry doesn't look dangerous or like the monster he wanted to be. Harry looks sick. Leprosy pallor tinged in fetid green, it marks his arms. When Harry rolls over onto his back, it can be seen marking the jawline of his face as well before he twists again.

He doesn't look strong or ominous curled there on the floor. His skinny chest heaves and he claws at his shirt like pulling away the cotton might give him better access to breath. He gasps, his spine bends.]

Get away from me. [He hisses it at the both of them, spittle and blood from a bitten lip spray onto the concrete as he hides his face against the ground, mortified and drunk and ashamed and angry.]

	Yeah, like that's going to work. [Spider-Man is still cautious, he has to be. He senses Gwen moving and snaps a look back at her. Even behind a mask, she can see fear. Everyone in the garage can smell it on him.] Gwen. [It's his way of telling her to stay back. He sounds way more serious than a Spidey should be capable of.] You need to get out of here. I'm not leaving. [Stubbornly, and right then he was just like her Peter, always trying to make her leave dangerous places, always webbing her down when he didn't want her to go somewhere. He was scared, she knew it. He'd done this to her plenty of times when he was scared. He never accepted the fact that she could be useful.]

He's hurt. [She was a little scared. She'd been regularly looking around the mansion for green things, and she'd been checking every corner of Oscorp for the same, but she hadn't found any indication that Harry was doing anything that her Harry had done. But his dad was alive, and she'd hoped that would make all the difference, change the timeline to the course of events she'd seen when she'd gone back after her Peter had left.]

[Voices came to him distantly, like he was at the bottom of a well and they were up above, safe on solid ground while he lie curled on his side in the dark. When Harry managed to pry his eyelids open, he realized that the dark was only because he'd had them closed. But the light hurts and he closes them again a moment later.

He hears Peter, and he wonders when Peter got here. Why Peter was here. Peter never came to his father's house. Peter hated his father. The thought made pain roll through his body, curling knuckles into fists. And then he heard the words instructing Gwen to get out, words rife with fear. Why didn't anybody trust him? This was just like with Jason, with Banner. Nevermind what Harry had just done to himself, it was like they all expected him to be dangerous. Wanted him to be. At least now, with the serum beginning to attack him from the inside, Harry felt like he wanted that too.]

Really? Really, Gwen? [Spidey was having all kinds of flashbacks. The time Harry did drugs out of loneliness or insecurity or something. The time Gwen kept pushing and pushing after her father died. And, yes he was afraid. He could see history repeating itself right here, why wouldn't he be?]

Harry, I'm going to get you upstairs, okay? We're all having a sleep over tonight. [Peter joked to keep his voice even and walked over to Harry, taking his mask off so his friend could see him. Peter looked like Peter except a few years older than he should be.] I don't have a cure for this version of Goblin serum, Gwen. I don't even know what would dull it. I need you to analyze it while I watch him. [Peter held his arms out for Harry.] Come on, buddy.

He's not going to hurt me. [Gwen insisted, and she felt like a broken record echoing those words. She had no clue of the role she'd played in this, and there wasn't a logical correlation in her mind between Doctor Banner and Jason visiting and this.

But, for Peter's sake, she didn't move forward and kneel in front of Harry on the floor like she wanted to. She listened as Peter suggested a sleepover, and the walls stopped wavering as she calmed, because that sounded like a good idea. And there was a logical thing to focus on, the serum. Logic always made Gwen feel better, and she finally did move then, toward the syringe and the green liquid she could still see there. She needed it if she was going to test it.]

[Quietly, to Peter.] Mr. Osborn isn't home. Only Emily and the nanny. [She knelt to pick up the syringe carefully.]

[Peter's face swam in front of him and Harry winced against the light like it burned. The world was a skipping record, and he felt high as a fucking kite in the worst way possible. It turned his stomach and blurred his mind, and he looked around the garage with glazed, unfocused eyes that gave no impression of actually seeing anything.

But he could hear everything, and Peter was speaking in the same low, gentle voice one would use when talking someone off a ledge. Harry swallowed and tried to focus again, his throat was dry and it felt like he'd drunk from a glass of razors. A sleepover. Sleep sounded like a good idea, Harry felt so exhausted and weak that he thought he might sleep for a year. He might sleep for the rest of his life, and that felt okay too. Harry smiled, and reached up to touch Peter's wavering face, like he thought he could make the room stop moving if he could just touch something and stabilize it. Stop moving, Peter.

Somehow, in that moment, Harry managed to connect a hand with Peter's, and it felt like every reassurance he ever needed that everything was going to be alright.] Yeah, a sleepover..

[But then they were talking about the serum, using words like analyze and dull. Whatever part of his brain that the serum had touched, it dug survivalist spurs in hard. Harry's pulse hammered in a body flush with fever, his shirt was already soaked in sweat just from a couple of minutes spent writhing on the floor. He tried to make sense of it, the sudden strength that hissed like the pressure from blown gaskets, it was like every part of him that had been hurting a moment ago now hurt so good. His dilated eyes took in everything, zoning in on Gwen when she knelt to pick up the syringe. Suddenly, irrationally, he felt like an animal in a trap.]

Put it down, Gwen.. [He warned her with a voice squeezed small.]

[Peter could see the change between wounded and captured animal. He knew that Goblin transformation like the back of his hand and things were only going to go downhill from here. His spidey senses started going crazy. His memories, that guilt from letting people down his whole life warned him of what was going to happen.] I'm sorry, Harry. [Spider-Man grabbed Harry by his sweat stained shirt, cocked back his fist and hit him as hard as he could on the side of his head. Enough to knock out anyone, even someone on the cusp of obtaining Goblin powers.

He looked back at Gwen like he was lost and then shook his head.] You work on a cure, I'll keep him safe.

[She knew something had changed when Harry told her to put down the syringe. That voice wasn't his. That voice didn't belong to the Harry Osborn she would trust with her life. That voice brought back memories she didn't want, and she wondered how she'd missed this. How had she not seen. The basement's walls moved in, moved closer, bisected more things in their path, a reflection of her mind. How had she missed-]

No!

[One of the miniaturized cars flew at Peter, but he'd already hit Harry, and that wasn't supposed to happen. She stood, syringe in her hand.] I need to get to Oscorp. Or to Stark Tower. The Chinatown lab won't have what I need.

[She wasn't sure she trusted Stark Tower with this. She wasn't sure there even was a cure.] I might not be able to, Peter. [Added, reluctantly, but she was already moving toward the door. She could get into Oscorp without being noticed.]

Ow. [Peter rubbed the back of his head after the mini car flew at him. He deserved it, though. He also deserved how angry every single one of his friends would be once they found out he KO'd Harry.] I'm sure whatever you come up with, it'll be great! [He shouted desperately and then lifted Harry up on his shoulder. Peter didn't know what to do with him, either. Stark Tower? Keep him here?

He stared down at the newly made tiny cars and then decided to call Jess and Carol.]
