Game event! [24 Jun 2013|01:15pm]

the_big_tuna
Man have I been slacking! Sorry guys, this month has just been incredibly busy for me. Looks like it has been for you all as well, but fear not, we've still got some time left to do this month's event! No for real I was waiting for some good gifs from TGG to drop...

On Friday, June 28, James Wolf/Zeus will be throwing one hell of a rager at his mansion. There'll be booze, girls, gambling, music and more. Of course, only the Olympians are technically invited, but that doesn't mean there won't be some gate crashers.

So what should you do with this info? Whatever you want! Write about your character trying to sneak into the party and stay away from the security. Maybe your character has too much to drink and feels up the wrong person! Maybe there's a tryst in the background that no one else can know about. The plot is entirely up to you!

This will be a group thread, and the post will be put up by the mod in the morning to give everyone all over the place time to get going. So you have a week to plan out whatever scene you'd like, or you can completely wing it. Get to it! Questions? Concerns? Leave 'em here!

Hey guys! It's that time of month again -- time for an activity check! Please comment here with each of your character accounts by June 8th, next Saturday.

And there are a few announcements -- in our ever expanding selection of pantheons, you can now apply for Nordic, Native American, and Voodoo deities. If you have any suggestions for pantheons (excluding current religions like Christianity, Buddhism, and Islam), feel free to drop me a note.

Lastly, this month's event is going to be a party thread! In the same vein as the Great Gatsby, Zeus will be throwing a huge party at his place (or elsewhere, if locations are suggested/offered). More details on that later! Drop any questions or comments in the modbox. Thanks for playing!

Hi guys!

Just wanted to give a quick heads up that Ash and I won't be around for plotty goodness/tags/etc the 22nd through the 28th as we will be on vacation :)

So if you send us any emails or tags and we don't reply -- that's why!

inspiration/book recs [07 May 2013|08:40pm]

I'm a huge fan of Dashiell Hammett, who wrote plenty of those classic, hard-boiled detective stories in the '20s and '30s. (Eg The Maltese Falcon) But somehow I never read Red Harvest until I went on a recent trip and, oh, man. If you're interested in getting some inspiration for this time period, to read something contemporary to the period/pick up some of the verbal cadences, and/or for gang warfare/general criminal shenanigans in one corrupt town, I highly recommend it! It just made me think of the Roaring 20s scenario like crazy. Shootouts; revenge; booze running and bribery; a slightly pathetic, sympathetic and yet somehow fascinating cast of misfits and outcasts... Plus Hammett's prose is (imo) always so goddamn clean and sharp. The man can turn a phrase.

(Of course, if you want something more fun, there's always The Thin Man with the ridiculous Nick and Nora.)

Stella's definitely got some of the old film noir-y, classic detective story elements in her--your old time femme fatale. Let's just hope she doesn't meet the fate of most of noir's femme fatales. Hammett's anti-heroines seem to have a mixed record, off the top of my head (prison, death, made a mockery of...)

I'm also currently reading Last Call by Daniel Okrent, which is a great book about the Prohibition. It's so fascinating to see what led up to the Temperance movement, what was behind it, and how it was entangled with seemingly disparate movements like woman's suffrage.

Hey everyone! As of today, the gamewide plot is officially ended. Please feel free to continue with your scenes and backdate them appropriately, but it's also time to move forward! All the objects that were available have suddenly and mysteriously disappeared without a trace. Whether they were behind a metal door with the best lock money can buy or in the middle of the street, they're all gone. Go ahead and run wild with this, and let the repercussions and friction flow!

It's also time for our first activity check. Please comment to this post with each of your character's journal's, spelling out the name of each character in that comment. Those who do not comment to this post by May 8 will be kicked from the community for inactivity. This is merely to keep characters and deities open for those who will use them to their fullest potential.

Hope everyone is still having fun!

Needy post alert [26 Apr 2013|02:55pm]

adra_rhamnous
Soooo Adra is getting a little antsy. Looking for a scene to toss her in :) She recently murdered a guy under a bridge in Chinatown and she's been pretty quiet since then, but she's itching for some more action.

For those who haven't written with us yet, Adra only does a few things but she does them pretty well (I think) - she'll help you find people, help people not be found, and rough up anyone who needs roughing up. Comment here or here.

Hi, I'm Sands and bringing in Apollo.

So I don't think I need to explain who Apollo was in myth right? I know he's a little known deity and all but...

This version is Raymond Seymour Wolfe, one half of a twin set. For many years he was a prime hitman to Zeus (part of a duo of course) and did the daytime hits (not going to trespass on his sister's territory). They gained significant repute after some brutal and swift killings of a rival gang's hitmen (let's just say there were insults involved and...yeah you don't want to do that with him) during the earlier years of Zeus establishing his dominance in the city, and had quite the name for themselves.

Long story short, a few years ago he took out the owner of an underground brothel for Zeus and asked if he could take over the place. Years of service being a hell of a shot always help with that sort of thing, and Raymond took the place over. He didn't kick the girls out, instead put them under his protection and had them work for him as he made the place a speakeasy, which he of course had to call Delphi. He's been quite successful with it for the past years it's been open, and has jazz playing every night, sometimes goes up to play a bit himself. Of course narcotics and various drugs are available at the place too, it wouldn't be a Delphi without. He still does the occasional hit for Zeus, but those are only if specifically requested of him and of high enough importance. Though it's a completely different thing if you piss him off...

He retains the power of prophecy, so if one were so inclined they could come to him to find out their future. Though it's for a price, and not always what one wants to hear. (And if any of you guys have plots for yours that you want hinted at (because no prophecy is allowed to be clear), feel free to hit me up)

Delphi is at the edge of Zeus's territory technically, but largely neutral. Apollo welcomes nearly all of the god-types into the place, and it can act as a middle ground or meeting place for various things. He's got a few secret backrooms, especially for the real serious stuff between the big three brothers, if they want to meet and talk. But even the less hardcore meetings can be held at his place.

Plot stuff! Feel free to walk into his place, strike a deal with him, chum around, ask for a prophecy, work for him, whatever you will!

Looking forward to this! Email me (five_sands@hotmail.com) or hit me up on AIM (sands2279), I'm usually invisible so try poking me even if I look not there and I'm an insomniac so there's no such thing as too late in the night!

(Sorry for the word vomit/length on this)

So hi! This would be the aforementioned Makaria!

Her myth history? Once upon a time, Persephone and Hades did it (real Hades, not Zeus in disguise Hades), and she was born. And then she did things for them. And that's the extent of any information on Makaria.

Here, her name is Clara Bordeaux, the ignored child of Robert Schwarz because he was a mean dad and didn't want her. She's a quiet girl who has to be right in all the things and doesn't really care for small talk or socializing or much of anything that is fun really.

Since she was itty bitty, Robert has been giving her mother money to take care of the kid and to sort of keep the fact that he has a kid quiet. Much like Ebenezer Scrooge, he's attached to his money, so he has decided he's not going to give her and her mother any more.

This is not okay. Clara decided that she was not cool with her father getting married and writing her out of his life, so she's going to go toe to toe with the old man and make sure he can't sweep her under the rug with a letter of goodbye.

So that's the long and short of it. Looking forward to releasing her on the masses!

Hey, Z here. I'm bringing Hades to the game, better known in Chicago as Dr. Robert Schwarz. Surgeon, Great War volunteer, professor, businessman, and investor at some point in his life - he owns a number of hospitals, as well as some property. He's based out of the north side and has a lot of clout there, but also has a citywide monopoly of supplying hospital grade narcotics - morphine, heroin, and cocaine mostly. When prohibition began, he left booze to his brothers. Robert is currently the elected Cook County Coroner and has control over many of the semi-permanent juries (common at the time) and the judges. Occasionally he'll manipulate findings or the courts if there's something in it for him.

Since he doesn't have the Underworld and Tartarus to worry about 24/7 and his better half ([info]allthingsbright) is around all year, he does tend to venture outside more. Don't think he's softened up, though. Robert still hasn't forgotten centuries-old grudges that might exist. I'd love plot with anyone and everyone at some point if possible, but if you want to work out a specific angle why your character might know him or have had dealings in the past, let me know.

Look forward to playing here!

intro [20 Mar 2013|10:08am]

Hello lovely people! I'm Kathryn bringing in Persephone's alter ego Amelia "Lia" Schwarz and hopefully Odysseus soon.

Growing up, Lia considered herself a model for the New Woman and eventually took the unusual step of embarking on medical school. Her education was derailed by a scandalous affair with her now-husband, Robert Schwarz, a doctor at the school who ultimately revealed himself to be Hades. She still has a hand in social reform/progressive issues, but is very much enjoying a more decadent lifestyle now in her third year of marriage and angling to ensure her husband maintains his power. If not so concerned with her husband's public image and their status, she'd probably be a hedonistic flapper type.

There's more info on her here. I'd love to discus plot or in-game connections with you all! There are so many intriguing characters are already in the mix!

Hello there! I'm Jess, and I write the lovely Adra Harper, a.k.a. Nemesis (a.k.a. Fate).

Adra is one of the old gods and as such has no family ties to any of the gangs, though she is affiliated quite closely with the Olympians, for whom she tracks down anyone in need of a good attitude adjustment.

Adra lives in luxury and being in the employ of the Olympians helps her keep up her preferred lifestyle. Despite that, she maintains an even keel in all (other) aspects of life. She is confident, intelligent, and fearless, and makes an excellent friend and even better foe. She is always just, though, and would like you to know that those who say otherwise were likely on the wrong side of the scale. (She wants me to tell you she also likes rewarding good deeds.)

Her sister ([info]eristic) is played by Ash and they are not as different as Adra would like you to believe.

She's always up for a hunt, divine retribution, or other thoroughly unladylike activities.

Hola, I'm Cee, and this is Esther Heatherton, a.k.a. Hestia.

Esther is a neat freak, and she has a touch of OCD. She likes things to be in pairs, has an extreme aversion to germs, and does not like to be touched as a result. Sick people kind of freak her out, too.

Despite all of that, Esther has an open door policy. If you knock on her door, you are granted entrance, no questions asked. She will feed you, hide you, give you a place to stay out of the rain, anything. Once you are inside of her home, whatever you do beyond its walls does not matter. She's only concerned with making sure you are safe, and well taken care of.

So that's Hestia in a nutshell! Looking forward to playing with everybody!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Awhile ago, when I had been working out the details of Phillip and trying to learn what I could about the 1920's, I decided to feed my obsession with 8tracks and collect some music that was top favorites during the 1920's. So, with that, I present you with this mix. It's a short one but all the songs (from what I could find) were favorites of people during that time period. I feel like I can visualize the time period better knowing what the music was for those years! So if you're interested, have a listen. :)

I am Alzbeta, and I write your not so friendly neighborhood Ares. Sam Wolfe is a proud, borderline narcissist who enjoys sex and fighting, not necessarily in that order. He's a retired Marine, WWI veteran, and current dirty cop. He's on the outs with Aprodite ([info]kytherea) at the moment, but their son Phobos ([info]inclinedfear) is working hard to fix that. I need a scene with his dear boy Deimos ([info]dreadsuccession) sooner rather than later! ♥

I'm very open to friends, enemies, people he can pay off to do his more menial dirty work, and so on and so forth. I can't access IJ from work, so email is best if you plan to get in touch!

(Also Ares says fuck you, Frankie.)

Intro, the return [17 Mar 2013|09:33am]

I should have waited before doing my intro, as I just got this guy ok'd. This is Butch Corcoran, aka Heracles, on the run from a seriously bad mistake and at odds with Mrs. Wolfe. He's left the Olympians to work for Poseidon. I hope for some drama!

waka waka waka [16 Mar 2013|08:58pm]

Rolling in from the world of spontaneous catnaps, hi! My name is Stormie, and I've two bugaboos in play here.

[info]dreadsuccession - Richard Wolfe (a.k.a. Dick, a.k.a. Deimos) is...moodier than his brother Phillip, so to speak. He's also not quite so in your face--well, not all of the time. Richard more or less skips along behind Phillip and kicks anyone knocked down an extra time, just for good measure. He has a tiny little smidgen of an issue when it comes to sharing his brother with other people that aren't family. This may prove to be Highly Problematic in the future. But you know, other than his co-dependency issue(s), he's a simple guy. He likes messing around with unsuspecting victims' level of dread, getting into free for all fights, and living the occasional yet nagging lifestyle of holding grudges until the cows come home.

See? Simple.

[info]polytropus - Percy Chapman (a.k.a. Hermes) likes to run around Chicago--and wherever else he's sent by daddy dearest--under the guise of earnest helpfulness. The only problem is that he might end up robbing you blind while he's busy shaking your hand and delivering important news. Call it a side effect of being the reincarnated patron deity of thieves. He has his fingers in a lot of different cookie jars, but it's always important to remember this handy factoid: don't shoot the messenger. It's not his fault he's gotta let you know you have exactly three days to leave town. It's not his fault you need to be taught a lesson. No, no, he is a friendly guy, really. He just adores people. But that doesn't mean he necessarily cares about them.

(Unless they're meandering down one of his roadways. Or they do anything to harm one of his 'kids'--formerly directionless youth he trains in the masterful art of pickpocketing and eavesdropping. You'll never catch him, and if his training has been learned properly, you might not catch any of the kiddos, either. Unless they mess up, and then...then they're on their own. Harsh but necessary.)

I'm down for almost anything, so feel free to leave me a message here, on either of their dropboxes, or in my inbox. I'll get back to you ASAP. :)

Hey all -- I'm Audra. I have Cate Phillips (or Alecto of the Furies). She's the oldest of three (friends are apping her sisters). They're running a new speakeasy/club in the Polish section of Chicago, and learning the ropes as they go (for good and for bad). Looking forward to scene-ing with all of you!

well howdy [16 Mar 2013|04:21pm]

eristic
Hey all! I'm Ash, and I've got two characters to mess with, depending on your poison. This little lady is Billie Harper, AKA Eris. Anyone who knows Eris can imagine what kind of a firecracker Billie is. Her moods are pretty mercurial, but for the most part she likes hurting others in a variety of ways. It's just how she rolls, being the goddess of strife and all.

And secondly, I've got Frank Williams ([info]blindhope), who is also Prometheus. He's a friendly guy and will help out others to the point of being a doormat. But he doesn't forgive slights, and is right now incredibly focused on taking down the Olympus Gang, or at least rooting out the bad cops from the Chicago PD. So if you need anything, he would definitely be someone to go to.

Hit me up with any ideas, either here or in either characters' drop box!

Hello!

I'm Air and I play Phillip Wolfe/Phobos. He's a fun dude, so long as you are of his interests and not on his bad side. Otherwise he loves to scare the shit out of people and will murder (literally) if you screw over his loved ones. So maybe he isn't so fun of a dude...

Anyway! I'm up for threads if you're interested :) Just leave me a message in Phillip's dropbox!
