DW port + new round coming soon!

Hi guys! For anyone who's porting over to Dreamwidth, I've created a port of the site over there: Roads Diverged on DW -- feel free to go pony up over there if you'd like/prefer! Those who want to stay here are perfectly good, too. :D

New themes list will be coming out soon, to sort of complement the kink-only round going on at [info]no_true_pair: something more gen-like. *g* If anyone has any ideas, feel free to toss 'em up!

Claims & silly admin postings!

Hello, good people of [info]roads_diverged! This here is K, and I'm the new ninja-type helping out with the running of this comm! (Read: I'm the one being terribly late at life, the universe and everything. *g*)

Here's a few updates on what's been up the last few months!

Claims: completed!

As [info]laylah updated a while back, we have three amazing people (thank you, [info]cleflink, for the correction!) who've finished up their claims; congratulations!

[info]ivoryandhorn completed a mixed bag of fics for an original, The City Adel: Ivahn/Pevi!

[info]ciceqi, with mad skills, finished two mixed bags: one Final Fantasy VII: Sephiroth/Zack/Cloud and the other Vagrant Story: Ashley/Sydney!

And I finished up my own Final Fantasy VII: Tseng fic mixed bag. :D

Claims: in good stead!

Challenge rules state that everyone should be posting at least a little something every 3 months! :D The good and excellent poster who falls into the green zone are:

[info]roruna, who last updated earlier this month in March.

\o

[info]jessara40k is one-off from finishing her Final Fantasy VII: Cloud/Sephiroth fic mixed bag!

Claims: IN THE RED ZONE

I know that there's been a bit of burn-out going on in IJ fandom, especially with the madhouse combination of [info]kinkfest and [info]areyougame and, lord knows, [info]yuletide over the past quarter. NO FEAR, I am here to highlight your names and mine in red sharpie! [edit: only I would not know that I've finished my own claim. *facepalm*]

[info]logistika_nyx, [info]elanor_pam, [info]tainted4life, [info]badpenny, [info]jlsigman, [info]kanjoku, [info]ani_mama, [info]mithrigil, [info]madamhydra, [info]lindenleaves, [info]arianne, [info]appleqb and [info]strawberry_smut last updated in a range of dates between March (guiltyface) and December 2008. DDDDDDDD:

If your name is on that list, PLEASE DO SIGN UP HERE FOR:

  • A bunch of cookies
  • Some hugs
  • A dose of inspiration

Want a new set of themes? Want to change your claim to or from a mixed bag? I'm up for cooking up a new bunch of themes & prompts so that everyone has some fresh ideas to continue on from. :D Leave me a jab in the comments, and if you guys are agreeable, I'll get them out in the week!

Claims: over the hill?

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that anyone who hasn't updated in the last year is probably not really interesting in maintaining a claim any more. D: I'll be pruning those dead claims and posting a new list tomorrow.

BUT MAYBE I AM DELUSIONAL AND WRONG! If your name is not on the two lists above but you still want to finish up, leave a comment here within a week and I'll re-add you to the claimant list!

Once again, a thousand apologies for not keeping up with you guys! New claims are ON THE WAY if you want them, so rev your engines (or oil them slowly with a clean cloth, or go on foot): two roads diverged in a yellow, I took the one less taken, and that landed me with a boatload of fic. :D

Claims list update

Right! have just gone through and done some housekeeping with my spreadsheets and the [info]roads_diverged claims list.

If you have a claim that has had no activity since March or earlier, and you have not contacted me to tell me you're running behind, I have removed your claim from the current list. ...If you have an inactive claim and you *have* contacted me, your claim should now be marked "on hold."

If you'd like to reinstate an inactive claim, all you need to to is post something for it (and if it's your first post, make sure you note in the headers what the claim originally was). If I've removed you from the list and I shouldn't have, drop me a note here and let me know.

People who claimed or last posted in April -- make sure you get something done this month to keep your claim active!

[admin] Keep up the good work!

How much do I love you guys? So much, seriously. ^_^

In the last month and a half, we've hit the point where a few participants are starting to cross the halfway mark, with 4 out of 7 pieces completed. Congratulations to [info]mithrigil, [info]elanor_pam, [info]ivoryandhorn, and [info]karanguni (who's setting a speed record -- four pieces complete in just over a month!). You rock!

And the community as a whole is pretty awesome, too -- we have works in the archive for 34 out of 49 defined themes so far. If you're looking for some inspiration for your next piece, the themes nobody's tackled yet are

under this cut! )

Keep up the good work! ♥

[admin] Tags; claims

Hi there, guys!

First, a heads up: I've changed the tags for participants, so that now your tag shows not only your username but also the characters you've claimed (or the name of your fandom, if you claimed a general series). This means that if you have two claims, you can find the pieces you've done for each one separately. You can check the full tag list here. If you spot an error, please let me know. ^^

Second: It's now March. That means that if you haven't posted since December, or you made a claim in December and haven't posted yet, you need to post by the end of this month to keep your claim active. I'll be removing people from the claims list at the end of the month.

Not sure when you posted last? The tag list should make it easy for you to check. ^_^

[admin] People with outstanding claims

...First, I am so sorry to have let this slide this long! I've been busy and scatterbrained, and that's never a good combination.

To keep your claim active if you made your claim in October (or before!), or if you haven't posted for your claim since October, please post by the end of this month. I'm allowing extra time for people who're running late, because I've been really bad about posting reminders.

If you've changed your mind about continuing your claim, or if you need more time to get a piece done, please comment here to let me know.

If you can't remember when you posted last, check the tags list for your username to find out.

Thank you to everyone who's contributed, and good luck on your pieces!

Reminder: Keeping Your Claims

Hey there, guys! Just a quick reminder for the people who haven't posted yet:

If you signed up during the first flurry of activity when the asylum opened at the end of August, then you need to post your first piece by the end of November to keep your claim active. (Yes, this is technically a few days of extra time for people who signed up on the 23rd; I suspect that this week is a bad time for a lot of people, posting-wise, since we've got a big Family Obligation Holiday in the States.)

If you're struggling, or if you want to drop something, please let me know -- and good luck on the writing/drawing!

List of Claimed Themes

List! )

Claiming Post

Make your claim here for your AU themes!

You may choose one category, in which case you are committed to all the themes in that category, or you may choose a mixed bag, in which case you must do one theme from *each* category (though you don't have to tell us which ones ahead of time).

Please check the list of already-claimed themes here before you comment, since we will not allow doubled claims.

Your comment here should include: [fandom] - [name of character, pairing, group, or "general series"] - [name of category, or "mixed"] - [your medium: fic, art, or a mix]
Example:
Harry Potter - Draco/Hermione - Cosplay - art

Please write out the names of your fandom and characters, to make your mods' lives easier -- fandom acronyms are sometimes less obvious than they seem at first, and name-smooshes are almost always difficult for people outside your fandom to follow.

You may have up to two active claims at any time.

Challenge Rules

Rules for Claiming:

- Your claim should note which themes you plan to work with, and what your focus will be: this can be a character, pairing/grouping, or fandom. Please make sure that you will be comfortable working with your claimed subject matter for all of your pieces: you should not, for example, claim Edward Elric and then write a story in which all the action revolves around Lust.

- You may claim a single category, and produce works for every theme in that category; OR you may claim a mixed bag, and produce a work for ONE theme in EACH category.

- You may make two claims at a time, should you so desire; they can be for the same subject or two different ones.

- You may not claim a subject+category that someone else has actively claimed; you MAY claim one that someone else has finished or dropped. (That is, if someone else is working on the Cosplay category for Harry/Hermione, you may not claim that pairing and category until the other participant finishes hers or drops her claim; in the meantime you may claim Harry/Hermione as a mixed bag, or for the Myth & Folklore category, or you may claim Ron/Hermione for Cosplay.)

- If you are trying to complete the entire set of 50, that means taking a total of seven claims -- 7 x 7 themes = 49 -- and then taking the "writer's/artist's choice" option as your final one. Obviously, you will have to do this in succession; also, if you choose to do this by making successive mixed-bag claims, make sure you don't repeat themes you used in earlier sets.

Rules for Producing:

- This community is *-friendly: m/m, m/f, f/f, gen, and other possibilities are all welcome. The only thing that's not welcome is bashing other people's preferences. :)

- All fiction should be at least 500 words long; all art should be more detailed than simple facial portraits. The reason in both cases is the same: we need you to provide enough detail in your work that the AU is clearly demonstrated. (...There is no upper limit; if you want to write 50k or produce a full-color doujinshi for an idea that completely ambushed you, we certainly will not complain!)

- To maintain your claim, you must produce at least one piece every three months. Remember, when you have a claim active, nobody else can make that claim, so it's not fair to other community members to take a claim and then let it languish.

- You are not allowed to combine themes in completing a claim. There is definitely overlap between some of the themes, but to get credit for completing a set you need to produce seven distinct pieces.

- You are not only allowed but encouraged to interpret the themes creatively! If you take the Wild West theme and you want to do that as a space-cowboy universe a la Trigun or Firefly, feel free (unless of course your fandom *is* Trigun or Firefly, in which case you probably want something a little more alternate to your canon's universe). A lot of the fun of AU is the chance to experiment and do things a little differently, after all!

- If one of the themes in your claimed category is canon for your fandom -- e.g., you've claimed Captain Jack Sparrow in the Cosplay category, which contains "pirates" -- then you may either put a creative spin on the theme itself (interstellar pirates! Vikings! highwaymen!) to make it AU, or else substitute in a "writer's/artist's choice" for that one theme.

Rules for Posting:

- ALL entries should be placed behind cut tags; if you don’t know how to make a cut tag, see the FAQ entry that explains it here.

- All entries should have header information above the cut; please use the following headers:
Title:
Author/Artist:
Fandom:
Pairing:
Rating:
Warnings: [if necessary; please warn for character death, rape/non-con, and shota/chan/loli-con at a minimum -- otherwise use your discretion]
Theme:
Any additional headers you want to include, such as summaries, author's notes, etc.

- Please post your works in the asylum itself, not just as a link or fake cut. This allows us to keep all responses to the challenge in one place, even if you later delete/abandon/lock your personal journal.

- For ease of archiving, please put the Fandom, Pairing, Title, and Theme of your work in the subject line of your post.
