Where: at the playground.
When: On the seventh
Ratings/Warnings: TBD
Status: Closed and Ongoing

The hardest thing in this world is to live in it. Merlin had learned that the hard way. Life had never been easy, but never been the worst it could be. Some days he wished he could do more for others.

He smiled as he popped in at the playground on a bench set there for parents to watch their kids. at the moment, it was deserted, and he settled on the bench sitting, to wait for Laura and her child. He was not sure what it was she wanted, but he knew he would do his best for her, as he would for anyone here.

That was his way, always. Or at least he tried to make it so.

So he waited...

Laura nodded. "Yes, Logan's father is Robin Hood." She wouldn't complicate matters by pointing out that he was a different Robin than was there now, so she didn't.

"The triplet's father and I are... I do not know. It's not good." Gabriel said he still loved her. But how could he? How could he leave her alone in such a crucial time and say that he still loved her. "I resent him a lot. I feel his confessions of... emotion are not genuine." Her eyes had dropped to her hands again, but then she forced them up.

Catching onto Logan once more. "Logan's father and I are on good terms. He does not love me, nor I him, but we are friends." She confessed.

Merlin nodded. He had met a version of Robin hood, once upon a time, but not the one who was here. He listened, smiling.

His smile faded at her later words. "Do you think it is these feelings toward him that are clouding your relationship with your children? A kind of transference, perhaps?" He paused, then asked further. "Have you and he spoken about this?"

He watched her with Logan, a little smile on his face. "Sometimes, that is the best way to have a child. Love is fine and dandy, but friendship carries a lot of weight across many years. Two friends can give a child a background just as well as two in love." He nodded.

Laura nodded briefly. "I believe so. I see him in their faces, smell him in their scent..." She trailed off. Though his second question had her shaking her head. "Not about the children, no, about he and I yes. I do not believe there is anything to salvage. And I have moved out of the house, and into one of the empty cabins." As far away from their little house as she could.

Her oldest was enough to urge a smile from her. "Robin and I have our moments of disagreement, but in the end everything has come together, when it comes to Logan."

Merlin nodded, understanding. "Can you, in your mind, divorce them from him, or do you need aid doing so?" He canted his head to look at her. He remembered something akin to this, a long time ago, like and yet unlike it, with the Cheshire.

He nodded to himself, thinking.

"Do you have anyone else to help you raise them?" He was concerned, as much for them as for her. Raising such children would be hard.

Her lips pursed, not quite sure what he was asking of her. "What do you mean?" She realized she would need help with it. But still she was unsure how he would help. It seemed as if it would be something that she would have to handle with time.

"Anna would like to, but she has her own children, one that is just over a year old, the other expected by another woman. And I could not... He is their father, I could not keep him from their lives completely, so long as he wishes to be in it." But how long would that be? Until Gabriel decided that it was to much and cut himself out again.

"You say you see him in them, and smell him in them... what if his smell and his look could be blurred to your perceptions? For now, not as a permanent thing. Would that help?" He stroked his chin.

He listened. "I am not unversed in children. While I would not try to replace their father, I can be of assistance, if you need it. And are willing to accept my humble services."

"I do not know. It is possible, but does that mean he would be unrecognizable when I saw him?" When she smelled him? She was unsure she liked that thought. While she resented Gabriel quite a bit at the moment, there was still lingering emotion there. "The time I loved him seems so short, before I became with child and he... changed. But it was a year. Almost to the day." Perhaps it was off a week or so but not much more than that.

"I will, when I am ready to move back into the house. Perhaps you could take one of the spare rooms, the children share the nursery now and will not need their own room for some time." She offered, and even considered the though of taking one of the others herself. Perhaps she would share Logan's.

"No. I would place a spell over you, so where your children are concerned they would have distinct smells and senses, as well as making your vision not see similarities between them and their father. It could be lifted at any time, without trouble, at your request." He wanted her to be happy, and more, to be able to relate to her children, to find them appealing.

Merlin blinked, then smiled a little. "I could do that, if it would be a help? I can assume a scent and appearance to enable them to accept me more easily, as well, if it is necessary." Above all things, help the children, was an old rule of Merlin's. He would help her, and her children, with everything he had.

Laura nodded briefly. "I think I would like that. They did nothing wrong, and I would.. Like to appreciated them as they are not punish them because of their father." She disliked that she felt so distant, that she couldn't feel what she felt with Logan because of the way she'd been tossed aside.

"I believe so," Oddly she felt comforted by the strange man. "But they do not need a different scent or appearance, I think they would accept you as you are. Ashley cannot hear, though, so he will need to be held close to your chest if you are to speak to him. They are human, even though I am not, nor is their father."

"Then I shall. Perhaps this evening? It can be done carefully, but easily." He smiled at her. The magic would take a lot out of him, but it would help her and the children, and was worth it.

"His mind is unencumbered. I can talk to him, in ways outside the range of senses, if need be." He smiled wider. "You are far more human than you think, Laura. I think you use someone else' judgement."

Laura nodded briefly. "Whenever you can, it will be appreciated." She was grateful that he could offer anything besides words of comfort. Laura didn't like procrastination. And this seemed as if it would be and end to a big problem.

Laura shook her head. "Who else's judgement would I go off of? I am basing that off of fact. I was not... I was created in a lab. Not by normal means."

"Whenever you like." Merlin smiled to her, willing and able to perform the spell whenever she wanted.

"And so what? Humanity is not a matter of how you were created or born, or whether one or the other. You show more humanity in a moment's time than many normal every day humans do. You are human, even if you had a strange beginning. I was born of rape by a being that was far from human, but I claim humanity as my own people." He pointed at her. "Do not give yours up so easily."

"This evening would be good. I do not know if I would be ready to return home yet. But it would be good to... It would be good when I am." She wasn't ready to face Gabriel. Not ready to face his scent, whether it in the house or on her children.

Laura shook her head. "I did not have much humanity before I came here. I still do not have much." He had obviously not heard from someone else about her killing spree. Or anything else she had done.

"Then so it shall be." He nodded to her, smiling. "I will do my best for you, Laura." and he would.

Merlin shook his head. "I do not agree, but I will not argue for now. We each have our opinions, and I can respect yours, even in disagreement."

A small smile, something that had not graced her lips in some time, was welcomed when it came. "Thank you, I do not know how I will repay you for such kindness." Kindness that even her husband did not seem to afford for her. Not anymore.

Laura chuckled softly. "I am not used to someone folding so easily. Usually I must battle to be sure that my own voice remains my own, rather than what someone wishes me to believe."

"You do not need to. This is who I am. Merely be yourself, raise your children, and be happy. That will be payment enough."

He nodded to her.

Merlin smiled at her. "I have been alive a very long time. I respect you as you and do not wish to dominate you, or control you. Or even, really, to convince you that I am right. I merely want you to be happy."

"With your help I believe I will have all three." Her eyes went to her eldest son, he was watching them rather intently. Wiser beyond his year.

"It is easier for me to accept what I know, than it is to try and relearn another way. And while it may seem stubborn... It works." Even if she didn't quite feel like she fit in.

"Would you like to meet him?" She nodded toward the toddler. "He knows you are different without having to touch you. That is a first for him and he is very curious."

Merlin acknowledged her words with a small nod. "Good. That is my hope. I just want a chance to make you all happier." He eyed her and her son, eyes almost glowing.

"Of course. If it works for you, then it is a good path." He smiled at her. "And I find you very not wrong as you are." He grinned wider.

His eyes widened and he glanced at her son. "I would be honored to know him." He favored Logan with a curious smile.

"I do not doubt you will succeed." Already Laura felt more hope than she had when she walked up. She was unsure what 'talking it out' would accomplish. And she knew that she could not be placed on medication, as it would only work for so long.

Laura chuckled again. "Very not wrong oh?"

With a little nod from Laura, Logan toddled over. "He might wish to touch you, it is how he communicates things that are beyond his level of speech. I will warn you, he is an empathic, telekinetic, telepath, I am not sure why he can only communicate through touch. But if there is anything you do not wish for him to see or sense you may wish to block it."

Merlin smiled at her, feeling himself buoyed by her and this chance to do a good thing. He felt like he was being given chances at this place to be better, stronger, and smarter.

When she spoke about her son, he kept his eyes on the boy. "Is there anything you do not want him to see? I have little to hide. But violence and sex and many things most people see as perverted are within my memories, all as fresh as my memory of this conversation." He nodded and held out a hand, waiting on her decision before extending it all the way.

"I do not wish to censure you, but I find myself blocking the violence and sex from him. I do not find it perverse, but I feel he is too young to learn about that part of my life." Laura confessed. It would make it easier to teach him about the 'birds and the bees' later, though. Perhaps she would ask Merlin, if he was still at the resort. If she was still at the resort.

Logan stared at the hand stretched out before him. Raising on his toes just a little so that he could reach for it, as his mother and the new stranger spoke.

Merlin nodded and those thoughts and scenes simply vanished from his mind like a fading dream. When it was done, he touched Logan's hand, smiling, letting the other do as he would. Merlin's mind was a place of wonders, and magic all around. At the core of it, at it's heart, was the man standing, staff drawn, glowing with red, gold, and black light, and standing between the world and the darkness outside of it.

Merlin's mind reached out warm, full of greeting and salutation.

"Thank you, Laura."

Logan had questions, all spoken into the mind of the other man. Who was he? What was he? Why was he talking to his Mommy? There was an odd surge of protectiveness over his mother. He let on that he knew about what happened between Laura and Gabriel, he gave glimpses of his mother in tears, alone, clutching a bulging stomach. The sense of emptiness the house gave before the triplets had been born. The depth of his mother's sadness, what he felt from her. It was almost as if he wanted to point out how fragile Laura was, and how he didn't want to see her broken again. Even for a toddler there was little doubt on the power he wielded. It didn't surpass Merlin's, of course, but it surpassed his mothers.

Laura smiled, "You are very welcome Merlin." She only hoped that whatever Logan let on was not too much. But there was little she could do if he had.

Merlin answered in a calm mental voice that carried respect and care. His intention of helping Laura, showing her smiling more, happier, and his intention of helping Logan, showing him happier too, and strong and happy with his mother and siblings, flowed along the link.

Merlin's answers about himself were just as simple, showing him as a man, but with three images all overlapped. Magic was the simplest word for him, and the sense was of a man who changed things, trying to make them better.

All of his images were against a backdrop of warmth and honesty, and of wanting nothing more than to help them both.

Oddly Logan dropped the protective act, it as the best way he could show acceptance. He let the other man feel how much he loved his mother. And his father, and Gabriel. Nothing would change that. But he would accept the other man in too. Once it was clear, he stepped away.

Pausing to pat Laura on the hand, offering her that sense of love and devotion. That made her smile. "He does not speak often, because of that. I think he gets frustrated that he cannot quite say what he wants to say, clearly." Laura confessed. "He has watched over me and his father since he was quite young. Little more than a new born."

Merlin nodded and smiled at Logan as he went, and turned to Laura. "He is a good child, and an intriguing one." Merlin smiled. "Someday, fate will ask much of him, but there is time." He tapped her gently on the arm. "Time for him, and for you, too."

Laura nodded, she knew that was the truth of it. As she watched Logan plop down and play in the sand. "I hope you are here long enough to stand by that. I have seen many come and go. It makes me wary to get close to someone else." And Gabriel was one of those who came and went, even if it was of his own choosing.

At a glance at the perfect moment to catch a great yawn from Logan, Laura smiled. "I hate to depart company, but I believe it is naptime. I do hope to see you tonight. I am staying in the cabin closest to the row of houses." She could not go far away from her children, even if she was in a different domicile. "There is no one else inside, so feel free just to enter. I will know you by scent."

Standing she moved to scoop Logan up. He held his arms up for her, knowing, and wanting, what was to come. "Come on my little bird."

Merlin nodded and rose. "Be well, to both of you. I will be there tonight, and be ready. I hope the rest of the day treats you both well." he bowed to them, and smiled.

They were a good family.
