WHO: Hermione and the Eleventh Doctor
WHEN: Just before lunch
WHERE: Library
WHAT: A meeting of library nuts?
RATING: Low

The library here possibly had had one too many visits by Hermione, like every library she had ever walked into, but she didn't care. She had plenty of time to spare today and if she wanted to spend that time in the library with a book in her hand then she would. There were so many different books here, some from home she had been glad to notice along with normal muggle books. Her fingers ran along some of the books she recognised from possibly the Hogwarts library and gave a soft sigh.

She didn't mind too much that her powers had not been returned just yet, she was use to life without magic anyway. She was more worried about those who had lived their life with knowledge of their gifts and could always use them. Hermione didn't need her magic for everything, after all, it just came in handy a lot. And when she spotted a book a bit out of her reach, a thick, heavy and old looking tome, she muttered under her breath. Okay this was when magic came in handy. She didn't know what the book was and could easily move on but just looking at such an old cover had caught her interest. She just had to stretch a little bit more.

The Doctor was bored, not that that was a particularly new sensation. It seemed that was the only way he'd felt since he'd come to Ridgeway. For the past several days, though, the boredom had been tempered with anger. Someone, and he didn't know who, had shut down the electricity to the whole resort. And not just electricity, either. They'd done something to the Tardis. His. Tardis. And, once he figured out who was to blame, there would be hell to pay.

For the moment, though, he was more interested in fixing the situation, and with the Tardis' memory out of commission, he was reduced to the library. And a card catalog. That definitely did not help his temperament any.

Still, even angry, the Doctor was one to help people, and when his research led him down a certain aisle, and he saw a young girl struggling to reach a book, his better half kicked in.

"Here, allow me."

"Oh. Thank you, that's kind." Hermione gave the man a grateful smile, stepping back and pointing. "That one there, the slightly older looking tome."

She rather looked forward to seeing what such an old book had within it's pages and hoped it wasn't something that her interest was far from. But she wouldn't have looked in a section that she was not wanting to read about, so it had to be okay. She tucked a curl behind her ear, only for it to fall back out straight away making her simply give up. There was no point in trying to sort her hair when it never did sit right.

Eyebrows raised without even thinking about it. Slightly older looking 'tome'? It had been ages since he spoke to someone with the vocabulary this young woman seemed to have. It was refreshing, though she was, of course, still human.

"It's a good one," he informed her, once he actually saw the title. There were few things the Doctor didn't know about. "I'm the Doctor, by the way. And you are?"

Hermione read the cover of the book when he handed it to her, her fingers running over the rough cover. It did sound like something that would catch her curiousity even more and she grinned brightly. There was nothing quite like an unread book. As he introduced himself Hermione's eyes lifted from the book to him and she held it close to her body with one hand so she could extend the other.

"Hermione Granger."

"Pleasure," he nodded, shaking her hand enthusiastically. "I take it you spend a lot of time in libraries. Not only when the power is out." Unlike the Doctor. Not that he didn't enjoy libraries, but there were better ways to learn about things; like actually exploring the universe.

A smirk tinged his lips as he let his eyes wander over the rows of books. "Have to be careful in libraries. One never knows what's lurking in the shadows."

"Hardly ever out of them," she admitted with a laugh. It was really the truth. Unless she had to work or was spending time with Harry she would be in the library or at least have her nose in a book. But it is what she enjoys, so why not? She followed his gaze as it moved, taking in all the different books before looking back to him.

"One never knows what is lurking in any shadow, not just in libraries."

His smirk widened to a full-blown grin at that, knowing eyes meeting hers. "True enough," he allowed. Though not many people were aware of that, or would voice it. "I suppose you know all about that, then."

It was always nice to meet someone in the know. "So where are you from, then?" Earth, of course. England. But it was polite to at least ask.

"To an extent." And she did. Living in dear of Death Eaters and Voldemort had you expecting every place you went to. Had you worrying that an attack was just around the corner. It made being here slightly easier, since she wasn't so afraid all the time. Not nearly as much as she use to be. But the scar that had faded from the dagger to her neck and the one that she wasn't sure would ever fade on her arm, the brand of Mudblood, always reminded her that there was a war to go back to.

"England. Just outside of London. And you?"

She'd seen a lot for someone her age; and the Doctor was always drawn to complicated individuals. They were the most interesting, of course. Still, he wouldn't pry. For the moment.

"Oh you wouldn't have heard of it," he demurred. "Let's just say I'm not really from around here. Wherever here is." But he could be reasonably sure, after all.

"Not many are," she pointed out, holding onto the book tighter as she looked around. She should probably sit down and start but she was rather intrigued by this Doctor. Which brought up a very valid question. Raising her eyebrow, she looked up at his eyes.

"You said Doctor. Doctor of what?"

He gave her a nod of approval, giving credit where it was due. She was quick, he would most definitely give her that. "That's my name. The Doctor. I'm just the Doctor." Honestly, what was it with humans and their desire to make sue everything had several names?

"Just the Doctor?" she asked with a slight unsure edge to her tone. What kind of name was the Doctor? Though, in all honesty, people had occasionally said that about her name in the past just because it wasn't common. "That's...interesting."

It was different and Hermione wasn't usually the type to exclude someone because of something different.

"As is your name," he returned, arms crossing. If anything, the whole 'Just the Doctor' discussion got a bit annoying. One would assume that after 900 years of travel, perhaps people could get used to the idea.

"And there are worse names than 'the Doctor'."

"Like what?" she asked with a smile. She was genuinely curious about what other names he had heard of that weren't usual. She had come across her fair share of strange names since she became involved in the wizarding world. She wasn't trying to be rude, she just wanted to know.

"Blon, Dodo, The Master," he listed, ticking them off on his finger. Honestly, the Master was a bit of a silly name. He could give her more names if she wished, but honestly one had to draw the line somewhere.

"Some would find Hermione quite unusual," he informed her. "But you know what Shakespeare wrote. What's in a name, and all that. Bit of a rogue, Shakespeare was."

"The Master? Good heavens, whoever called their child that was asking for them to be rather full of themselves." It was true. Grow up with a name like that and you're going to think yourself incredibly important.

"Well Shakespeare was an extremely clever man. And he did like my name," she added with a laugh. She had always enjoyed reading Shakespeare whenever she had a chance to when on holiday from Hogwarts or even if she wanted something other than school books to read.

"He chose the name," the Doctor answered, with a smirk. "Apparently there is something in a name. He had quite the high opinion of herself." He had to smile at her defense of Shakespeare.

"Quite the ladies man, too." It had been rather annoying. "No matter. I suppose I should let you get back to your reading." However boring it may seem.

"So does that mean that you are trying to protect and heal?" she asked with a grin. It made sense after all if he was saying a name meant something. A name like the Doctor must certainly had something behind it. "Did you choose yours?"

She had read that about Shakespeare. That he had quite liked many women, and of course the speculation that he didn't stop at women. "Oh I don't mind."

She was quite enjoying talking to him.

He didn't respond at first, merely smiling at the young girl. But then he nodded, though sensing the answer would need a bit more explanation, he shifted, arms crossing as he leaned against the shelves.

"I chose the name. But Doctor's aren't just there to heal." Or protect for that matter. They were academic in nature. The Doctor was rather fond of studying anything and everything that came his way.

"That's true. One can be a Doctor in many ways." Yes it was more common for a doctor to be medical, it usually became the first thought when hearing the word, but it wasn't limited to that. Scientists, for example, could often have such a title.

"So why choose that particular name?" she asked, eyes bright with curiosity.
