Entry tags:anna milton, castiel harvelle-winchester

Who: Cas and Anna
What: An invitation
Where: Anna's place
When: Wednesday afternoon
Warnings: Not likely

It smelled like must. The first thing Cas did was open a window. It wasn't healthy for the baby, even if Anna didn't need fresh air. He wasn't surprised it was like that but he wasn't willing to leave it.

He wasn't really sure Anna would want to take his invitation and he was pretty sure she wouldn't trust it was something he wanted to do but he really didn't see any way around it. He didn't want her to just fade away and he certainly didn't want his nephew to be neglected.

He had long since let go of any blame he may have proportioned to Anna, mostly out of fear. His time with Dean and Jo of late had assured him but he knew things were about to get more complicated too. They kind of had to. He headed for her bedroom, pretty sure she would be hiding there. At least he mustered the courtesy to knock. "Anna? Can I see you? I have something for you."

Anna felt Cas approach the way she'd felt everyone else approach. Well, it wasn't really everyone else, it was really just Dean and Robin. That was the extent of the people who trusted her not to kill them right now. And really, they didn't get much response out of her anyway. Pretty much all she did was take care of Aiden and sleep. Or some approximation of sleep. Now that the dreams were gone, she seemed to have insomnia (go figure). So she lay in bed and ignored the people coming and going (for the most part).

At the moment Anna was sprawled out on her stomach in bed. Aiden was laying to her left, the side of the bed she used to sleep on. Anna wasn't even holding him as she fed him, just holding the bottle up so that he could drink. She didn't have it in her to pull him close right now, and she didn't need to breastfeed at the moment. He did get that a few times a day, close contact with his mother while she fed him. Sometimes she even snuggled him just to snuggle him. But for the most part the life had gone out of her, she did things on autopilot. It felt like the whole world had gone grey, nothing had color for her anymore.

Lifting her head to the door, Anna debated for a minute whether or not to let him in. Although she could feel the determination as he stood there. She wasn't just going to brush him off. Better to get it over with. Anna turned the knob and let the door creak open a bit without leaving her spot on the bed, without stopping feeding Aiden. She didn't say anything, just let her head fall back to the pillow.

Cas found just what he expected to find. He knew the look, has lost count of the amount of times he had seen it. The sight of Aiden lying on the bed, with bare contact, made the former angel far more twitchy than his mother's condition. He moved to the infant and lifted him into his arms, taking the bottle from Anna. To stop her getting anxious he settled beside her on the bed with her son.

He wasn't dumb enough to ask her how she was. "You're coming home with me," he said softly. "The two of you. We have room and you need company." He didn't expect her to agree but the offer was out there. It was a start.

Anna watched Castiel without much response. She didn't fight him when he pulled Aiden into his arms. She didn't have the energy. At the moment Anna was essentially dead inside. If Cas could give Aiden something that she didn't have right now, the warmth that had slipped from her more and more in the past few weeks, she was okay with that. Sure, she could get up and go out and smile and pretend to be okay, but she wasn't. Dean saw through her, Robin saw through her, Gabriel probably knew but was too busy with his own family, and Anna knew better than to try and lie to Cas because that never worked. If it were anyone else, she would have put on a show and pretended to be okay, but she just couldn't bother with Cas. It would be pointless.

Of course she probably should have. Maybe he wouldn't have made the stupidest suggestion in existence if she had pretended to be okay.

Actually, it wasn't even a suggestion. It was practically an order.

"You don't really want that. Tell me what you came here to tell me, Cas. I'll get up and do stuff if that's what you want. You don't have to jump to ridiculously bad ideas." Anna lifted her eyes toward him, not quite able to catch his gaze from the pillow.
