Stefan knocked softly on the door, his cheek pressed against the wood. Elena had locked herself in. He wasn't worried about her, yet, so he hadn't tried to break the door down, yet. "Elena," he called, to accompany his soft knock. He knew she was sad about upsetting Damon, but really, his brother just needed to get over himself and stop being an ass. Stefan and Elena were together. They were getting married and starting a family. It sucked for Damon, but that was the way it was. Stefan had known and loved Elena first. It wasn't that long ago he'd been threatening to kill her to get to Stefan. He needed to accept that their lives didn't revolve around him. Hopefully, pretty soon, they'd have a brand new life for them to concentrate on. They wouldn't have time for Damon's drama then, so he might as well start getting used to the idea.

Still, it was no use trying to tell Elena that. She cared about him, and she hated it when he was upset. Stefan had used to feel that, but the years had dulled his compassion for his brother. It upset him sometimes, and part of him was really glad Damon had Elena to give a shit about him. If she didn't, no one would. But she couldn't hide in their room forever. For one thing, he'd need to get changed at some point, and all his things were locked inside with her.

"Sweetheart, it's just me... Why don't you open the door?"

Elena looked from from her spot on the bed. As if today wasn't bad enough Lee had to show up. Of course he'd want to kill Damon. She was tired. tired of defending Damon and having to ask people not to retaliate against him for all the horrible things Damon had done. They'd be within their rights too, but they couldn't see the truth. Damon had changed. He was a different person. Besides, she couldn't risk losing her future brother in law and Uncle to her future child. Still. It was making her look like a nutcase and she didn't want Stefan's relationship with Lexi to be strained on account of her trying to defend Damon.

"Only if you aren't going to yell at me or lecture me," Elena mumbled. Elena knew Stefan would be able to here her with his vampire hearing. If he was going to yell at her, she would happily stay in here with Hershey and Marshmallow. For once, the two animals were focused their sad mommy than their daddy whom they knew was on the other side of the door.

Stefan heard her speak, even though she wasn't talking loud. He frowned. "Of course I'm not going to yell at you," he said in reply, pressing his hand against the door. "I just want to give my fiancee a hug," he said softly, just loud enough for her to hear. There was a lecture in him, but he would bite his lip if she didn't want to hear it. He just hated her being upset, especially now when they should be completely happy.

Elena sighed and crawled out of the bed and went to open the door to let him in. Of course when Hershey and Marshmallow saw their daddy, all thoughts of comforting Elena went out the window as they rushed forward to snuggle against Stefan. Elena snorted but couldn't help but smile. They loved him so completely. What wasn't their to love about him? He was perfect. Absolutely perfect. "Okay, you can come in with me," Elena mumbled as she turned to crawl back onto the bed.

Stefan wanted to hug Elena as soon as she opened the door, but the two animals barrelled into his legs. He stooped to give them a quick simultaneous pet before stepping over them into the room. He pushed the door to behind him and crossed to where Elena was sitting on the bed. His brow creased and he reached out to rest his hand on her leg.

After a moment, he kicked off his shoes, and crawled onto the bed beside her, pulling her back against him so she had her back to his chest. He wrapped his big, strong arms around her, nuzzling his face into her hair. "Don't be sad," he murmured softly, letting his eyes shut.

"Your friends hate me because I'm trying to keep Damon alive. Damon's hurt because we are having a baby. Katherine's probably hurt but handling it better. I always try to be the person that doesn't hurt people and I'm the one that keeps jabbing the knife into people's heart." She sighed and snuggled into his embrace. "Maybe I should just...switch off my emotions so to speak. Maybe I should just stop caring. It would be less painful that way. I'm tired of hurting, Stefan. I'm tired of making myself sick trying to keep the peace between everyone."

"Don't say that," Stefan said firmly. "You are not switching off your emotions. Not now, and not when you're a vampire. What makes you so wonderful is how much you care."

He sighed, reaching out to the side and grabbing the edge of a blanket to pull over them. "I'm tired of that too," he said, making sure she was covered by the blanket, snuggled against him. "But you can't make everyone happy. All you can do is keep caring."

Stefan lifted his hand to stroke her hair, kissing the side of her head. "But don't let it cost you your own happiness," he said softly. "You should be happy right now, Elena. You have every right to be happy..."

"Your friends are going to end up killing me for standing up for Damon. Yes I know Damon has done some horrible things. I mean he killed Jeremy, Stefan! But it's in their best interest NOT to try and retaliate against him here. Petersen will go after him. As wonderful as you think he is right now, you can't forget the power he wields. And considering I'm not trying to throw Lee under the bus for abducting me from the front of Bree's Bar to lure Damon to me, he could afford to be a little more respectful. It's not easy having your best friend probably think I'm an nutball--even if she says she likes me." She sighed and rested her head against his shoulder "fine, I wont turn off my emotions. I promise."

"I'm not going to stop caring at him, Stefan. He's going to be my brother in law and the Uncle to our future child. He deserves happiness and I'm sincerely hoping this time he's spending with Katherine gives them the answers they are looking for. I never thought they'd get along, but, they've been good for each other over the past few days."

She sniffled and looked over at her phone as it buzzed, she picked it up and laughed, showing him a comment from the community "Look. She's even threatening to find a way into the house and drag me out of my room if I don't come out." Whoever thought they'd be friends?

"I am happy, Stefan. I have a wedding I want to plan. As excited as I am about possibly being a mommy, I'm not walking down the aisle as a swollen blimp. Are you okay with getting married in two to three months?"

Stefan sighed, keeping his arms wrapped around her. "No one's going to kill anyone. I'm not going to let that happen." He didn't want Elena to be hurt, firstly, but he knew, like she said, there would be retributions if anyone got hurt. They couldn't start fighting between themselves.

"I'll talk to Lexi," he said softly. "Ask her to get Lee to back off." He didn't know how much control she had over him, he couldn't control Elena after all, but her influence might help.

"That soon?" He asked, slightly surprised. He'd expected her to want to wait a while. Still, he guessed she'd made her commitment the other night, the first time they'd had sex after he'd talked to Petersen.

"Don't lose your friendship with Lexi on account of me," Elena warned. She's been in your life much longer than I have and she will always side with Lee because she loves him. It's only right for them to stick up for each other." Elena rubbed her temples, tired and stressed. "I want to be friends with them both, especially Lexi. But they wont get anywhere if they continue to hate on Damon. He's your brother, Stefan. I know at times he annoys you, but you still love him. For that reason alone they should leave him be. He's going to be my brother in law and the uncle of our child. I'm not going to deny our child that opportunity to have him in their live. he's upset now, but I know he'll threat our child well--if only because he loves me. He said he wasn't mad at us anymore and promises to come home soon. If I'm going to be the only one in his corner, so be it. He's done some real shitty things. Nobody knows that more than I do, but no matter how bad somebody is, they always need at least one person in their corner. Even people like Klaus need one person to stand up for them. If that person has to be me with Damon. So be it. But again, don't lose your friendship with Lexi because of me. She's more important any day of the week."

At his surprise about her wanting to have the wedding so soon, she swated at his arm and stuck her tongue out at her fiancee. "Stefan, I imagine now that we an have a child that you and I will be...playing," she purred, "more often. I have no intention of walking down the aisle to marry you as big as a blimp. for one the wedding dress I have in mind won't permit it, and two--I want our wedding night to be steamy and sexy--if I'm a blimp--it's not going to happen. Unless..." she bit her lip "you're having second thoughts? Is that why you don't want it to happen so soon?"

Stefan smiled, shaking his head. "Lexi and I have been friends for a cetury and a half. It would take more than this to lose it." He nuzzled his face back into her neck, sighing as she spoke. "I've talked to Damon about this. And I know he'll be a good Uncle, but he needs to stand up for himself. If he really is changing, he will win people over." He kissed her cheek from behind. "Please...focus on you for a while. Not Lexi and Lee, not Damon. You."

Stefan frowned, turning her to face him more fully so he could look into her big brown eyes. "Of course not, Elena. I want to marry you. And I want to spend forever with you. Starting right now. It doesn't matter to me when we get married, if we get married, whatever. As long as I'm with you, nothing in the world matters." He smiled, lifting his hands to cup her face. "Our wedding day and night will be wonderful, whatever size you are." He grinned, giving her a quick, soft kiss. "Besides, if you are the size of a blimp, it'll be because you're carrying my baby. Nothing in this world could be more attractive to me. You're giving me the one thing I always wanted."

Elena nodded. "I'll try, I promise. You know me, Stefan. I obsess about caring about people. I obsess and go to suicidal lengths to ensure that my friends are safe and happy. But making myself sick isn't an option anymore. Not with us getting ready to have a baby. I need to start looking out for me and just hope that Damon won't do anything to get himself killed. Because if he does that, I'll kill him."

"I want to spend forever with you too, Stefan." Elena said with a big goofy smile. "I can't wait for our wedding day, I cant wait for the wedding night and I can't wait to have your baby." Her face positively glowed with glee. "Though Dom is being mean. She's trying to jinx me with triplets so I'll be more miserable than she is carrying twins."

Stefan smiled, reaching out to run his hands over her flawless flat stomach. "Just think, Elena; there could be a little baby in there. I need you to keep it safe for me. Damon can look after himself for the time being."

Stefan pulled her back into his arms, so she was tight against him. "I can't wait either," he said, his lips against her forehead. "And any children we have will be a complete miracle to me," he said softly. For her sake, he hoped she didn't have to carry three babies, but he was just so happy there was even the possibility. After so long thinking it was an impossibility, the hope itself was wonderful.

"I just hope it's not some creepy super sped up pregnancy like in Twilight. That'd suck," but she'd deal with it because it was her baby and even though it didn't exist yet, she'd love the baby anyway. "So tell the truth, what do you want more? A little boy or a little girl? Then I want you to tell me why. I'm simply curious."

She snuggled against him, already feeling better. "Hopefully when I'm pregnant, Hershey and Marshmallow will love me more than they love you. After all I'll be carrying mini!you inside me. It would stand the reason why they'd want to protect me, right?"

Stefan laughed, giving her a little squeeze. "I hope not too!" He'd read Breaking Dawn, and he did not want Elena going through anything like that. It had been horrible. Still, his body was pretty much normal, except for being dead. Hopefully their baby would be normal too. But it was their baby, and he would make the most of whatever happened.

Stefan bit his lip, pondering her question. "I don't know," he said after a while, with a silly grin spread across his lips. "A boy would be great. I could play with him, and teach him what it is to be a man." He slipped his arms around her, his hands clasped over her stomach. "But... a little girl..." He looked down, embarrassed. "I'd love a little girl." True, she may not love him when he scared off all her boyfriends, but at least she'd know she was loved.

"They do love you anyway," he said, giving her a little nudge. "You're their mommy... Mommy." He grinned, glancing over at where Hershey and Marshmallow were still playing near the door. "Me, Hershey, Marshmallow, Brownie, Caroline, Lexi, Katherine, Damon... You and mini!me will be the most protected beings in this whole place."

"I think a little girl would be cute. She'll get annoyed when you and Damon eat her boyfriends to keep her single forever. Actually, you may not even get that far. I predict she'll have you wrapped around her tiny little finger before she even gets out of the womb. A boy though...having a boy before we have a girl just gives you another minion to have in scaring away future daughters boyfriends." Elena sighed and shook her head. "I'm willing to bet by the time this pregnancy is over that I'm going to be sick and tired of being protected."

She smiled and patted the bed, smiling as her two furballs jumped up and showered her face in kisses and snuggles. "I have no doubt that Petersen would protect me too. That guy is hella scary when he's pissed off. With the rate they are bringing people from our world in, I have to wonder who they are going to bring next. Any predictions?"

Stefan nodded. "She's already got me wrapped around her little finger and she doesn't even exist yet!" Boy or girl, he would be overjoyed to have a child. He always wanted to be a father. It was the thing he'd always known was on the cards for him. It was a shame Veritas didn't exist any more, for their child to run in and enjoy as he had, but wherever they were, it didn't matter. He was so greatful for the opportunity! "Oh I can guaruntee you will be, but that's tough. There is no way I'm letting anything happen to you."

Stefan reached out and stroked the two furballs when they jumped up on the bed. "See, that is true love," he laughed as they covered her face with licks. The two little creatures loved both of them. They were already a little family. A baby would just make everything so much more complete.

"I'd like Jeremy or Jenna to turn up," he said, tilting his head slightly to look at her. "Before the wedding. It would be nice if you had your family around." He lifted a hand to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear. "Or Bonnie. I don't know if that's on the cards though. It all seems to be rather random. I can't detect any pattern in the order Petersen brings them here."

"I'm not going to hold my breath or get my hopes up." Elena sighed and snuggled against him, squirming away from the doggy and kitten kisses and snuggles. She loved her two little furbabies and her owl from Sirius so much. They were her babies, and now she was going to have a real baby. The thought astounded and overwhelmed her. Still, she was excited. She was going to be a mommy. She was going to have a little clone of her and Stefan running around.

"I don't care who shows up as long as you stay. Never leave me. Never let Petersen send you home."

Stefan stroked her back under the blanket as she snuggled against him. This was what he liked doing most in the world, just snuggling with her. She was so warm, and smelt so gorgeous. He could happily just hold her forever. He couldn't wait to watch her stomach swell as their child grew inside her. It was beyond his wildest dreams that something like this could happen to him. He loved her so so much for making his dream possible. It was all very well for Petersen to make him fertile, but without her, the woman he loved, consent, his dream would still be dead. He had worried she wouldn't want children yet. She was still so young, by today's standards. Getting married was one thing, even becoming a vampire didn't bind them together forever, but she wanted to have his child, and that was the most wonderful gift in the world.

"I'm not going anywhere," he said softly, his cheek against her forehead. "We're going to be together forever."
