Who: Gabriel and Sam
What: Telling Sam WTF is his problem
Where: Sam's room
When: The day after Christmas
Rating: TBD
Status: Incomplete.

Yeah, this was great. Amazing. Just fricken peachy. Even as a Herald he, on average, got far less horrible and messed up assignments than this. He knew Sam didn't even want to hear what he had to say. OK, so the plagues had been a bit of a downed but that hadn't exactly been personal. No. Trust a Winchester to mess him up so badly, to give him the very last thing he wanted to do as an assignment. Again. The only thing worse than telling Sam and hearing his dead-pan response was telling Dean and having the man demanding he fix the problem like he had access to absolutely anything Dean Winchester wanted and it didn't matter how much it cost Gabriel to get it, no. He was just expected to get it.

Even the fact that Dean was currently going some way to undoing the damage he had inflicted on Castiel wasn't enough to get him completely off the hook. Even the fact Gabe had a, hotly denied, soft spot for them. It really was too much. They were too much. And it wasn't as if Sam was afraid and maybe deserving of a scrap of pity, not that Gabriel didn't pity him... not because of what he was going through now but because of what he faced when his problem was repaired.

Gabriel didn't feel even slightly odd about having this meeting in someone else's room. It was hardly uncommon. He'd been in a lot of bedrooms in the last 2000 years and for some of them he'd even been clothed. For now he wore a thick jacket he didn't need and a pair of jeans that were a little loose on his frame. His boots crunched in the snow in a way he found charming. He didn't have to walk but his other method of travel could be intrusive, he had been told, and though Sam was expecting him he figured he owed it to him to knock though he doubted Sam would care of he zapped in while the boy was ball deep in his own brother. (A thought that made Gabriel shudder a little and he felt a sudden desire to pull Dean free from his imaginary situation. Then he knew he was unsettled by the situation.)

So he swallowed as he knocked on Sam's door and hopes he was alone as he decided to strain in his imagination for a new one.

After Gabriel's little promise to come over, Sam set aside his PDA and stood from where he'd been sitting on the bed. He had been working on push-ups just before the distraction, and was shirtless at the moment, and sweaty. Not that he cared. Scooping up a dark gray t-shirt, he pulled it on and left the room, hearing a knock just a minute later.

Like he'd told the angel, he didn't really care about what was wrong with him, though he knew he should. In fact, he couldn't care. And at the moment, he didn't see a reason to, even if there was something wrong.

Pulling open the door, Sam studied Gabriel for a second. He looked just as he had the night Lucifer had died, which didn't really surprise him. After a moment, the younger Winchester stepped back and held the door open. "Come on in." He then turned and headed for the kitchen, leaving Gabriel to come in if he wanted.

"Beer?" He asked over his shoulder while pulling open the fridge and grabbing a bottle for himself.

Gabriel could smell the sweat on Sam before he even opened the door. He wondered what the young hunter was sculpting his body for. It wasn't that Gabriel himself had anything to fear from the heavy muscles of a human a third bigger than his vessel but there were few he wanted to see on the receiving end if... It was better if he chose to see them as just another hunter's tool.

"Beer sounds good," Gabriel said breezily. It sounded better than talking. He followed Sam to the kitchen. It was the fact that Sam wouldn't react. That was what bothered Gabriel. Not upsetting him. That would have been something, that would have been progress.

Might as well get it over with. Like a bandaid. "So, you have to know it's pretty big, right?"

He pulled out a second bottle, holding it out to the angel. After it was taken, Sam leaned back against the counter and twisted the top off his, taking a long drink, then lowering it to study Gabriel. He knew he should be feeling something - nervousness, trepidation, whatever. But he didn't.

"Yeah. Figured as much. So what is it?" Sam didn't really care if the angel told him or not - it wasn't going to change anything.

Gabriel uncapped the beer and took a sip. He didn't like beer, as it happened, he simply found it useful when talking to people who found you more trustworthy with one in your hand.

"I'm sorry to say, kiddo, your soul has left the building. As in you've got your body and your mind and your memories but your future is still in that pit. It's not good Sam. It's very not good. You get that, right?"

Gabriel doubted robot-Sam cared so very much but he still had his brain. Surely there was some little alarm bell tinkling away in there.
