Who: Jack and Sirius
What: Soul Mates plottage
Where: The doorway to Jack's room
Rating: Low
Status: Incomplete

Jack had woken somewhat early, blinking blearily at the shiny bracelet now clasped about his wrist. For a brief second he considered that Ianto had gotten it for him. That thought was discarded, though, as he studied the engraving. Unless SB stood for something naughty in Welsh or Latin or whatever language Ianto spoke, it wasn't from him.

Sitting up, he sank back down as his head swam. Jack Harkness was not one to let illness get in the way of anything. Pushing himself up, with a deep breath, he slipped on boxers, moving to the door. Must have been his imagination, the dizziness. Felt better and better the more he walked around.

Opening the door, even Jack had to do a double-take at the man sitting there. "I know I'm a handsome guy, but this is new even for me," he commented, with a grin and a wink.

The moment Sirius apparated into Jack’s cabin, the sickness vanished. He looked at the map in his hand. The small dot labeled ‘Jack Harkness’ did not move. Obivously he was still asleep. Lucky guy! Sirius could really need some sleep himself. Being awoken by nightmares and the need to throw up was not his favorite way to greet the morning. At least the other staff members had been right about finding someone with the initials that stood on his bracelet.

Sirius yawned and sat down, his back leaning against Jack’s door. He folded the map and put it into the pocket of his trousers. Then he stared at the gold band gloomily. He had tried every spell he knew. But nothing worked. And what seemed worse, he had problems with casting a few of the really complicated spells. It was as if he lacked the magic.

Noises behind him shook him out of a light slumber. He rubbed his eyes and had just enough time to keep himself from falling backwards as his backrest was suddenly gone. One of his hands held onto the doorframe and the other was behind Sirius' back. Sirius threw his head into his neck and looked up at the man standing there in nothing but boxers.

He decided he liked this man at once. Though a bit confused at his flirting nature – they were both man, weren’t they? – Jack seemed like a fun guy to have around.

“Don’t get used to it, mate. I’m rather keen on getting this piece of jewelry of my hand.” He grinned up at him and showed him the bracelet on his arm. "And if we can't manage that, it is your turn on the floor."

Sirius would soon realize that being a man didn't automatically exclude you from Jack's radar. Nothing did, really. Though he would apparently have to tone it down a bit; twenty-first century morality was so...Puritan.

"Bed's big enough for two," Jack countered, grin widening. "I take it you're SB? Jack Harkness, it's a pleasure."

Sirius climbed to his feet. “Sirius Black, it is. And that should answer your question. Nice to meet you, even though the situation could be a better one.”

He glanced into Jack’s room and at the bed. A frown appeared on his face. “I don’t know about the bed-sharing though. I think I have to get used to that thought first.”

"Definitely agree with you on that one," Jack nodded. "I don't mind meeting new people, but this seems a bit ridiculous." Still, though he was a flirt, he was a considerate one, and if flirting with men made this Sirius Black nervous, Jack would have to tone it down. A little.

"I don't bite," he protested. "Unless you ask." Still hands were held up in a gesture of surrender. "Joking. I can tell when someone's not interested."

“I get bitten once a month, thank you!” Sirius laughed. “And Remus is not flirting with me before he does it. And I think that’s enough for me. And nah, you really seem nice but - if you haven’t noticed – we’re both men. I don’t even want to know how that could ever possibly work.” Sirius rubbed the back of his head. Images he just did not want to have were trying to invade his mind. Why would any man ever want to get involved with another man? No need for buying jewelry, no ‘what are you thinking right now?’ and no one who dragged him to see a play where the only topic was: “Will they get together or will they not?” Yes, he could see the advantages. But sex…? Eww… go away, thought! “Definitely not working.”

"Oh I've noticed, Jack returned with a shrug. "Twenty-first century morals are so...quaint. I'm from the fifty-first century. Attitudes toward sex are a bit more lax." And if Jack had been able to see what was going through Sirius's mind, he would have been more than happy to fill him in on the details and just how amazing it could be.

"I can't tell." He smiled and shrugged. "I'll never make it to the twenty-first century. I'm going to die in 1996, so I'm the wrong one to ask. How's the fifty-first century. And man, I never thought I would ever task this question and expect to get an honest answer." Sirius was amazed that he was not feeling utterly strange. He seemed to finally getting used to... well, all of this.

"I'm sorry." It seemed like the right thing to say when someone confessed that they were going to die. "But the fifty-first century isn't all it's cracked up to be. Sure there's space and time travel, but there are still wars." Face darkened for a brief moment, head shaking. It hardly mattered now.

"Twentieth century is fun, too, though."

Sirius shrugged. "Nah, you don't have to be. You are not going to kill me. That would be my cousin." He still could not believe that part of this future. "Yeah, well, I have a really nice family. They are all very charming."

"Your description of the fifty-first sounds a lot like my time, without the space-thing though. I mean this is the ultimate time travel, isn't it?" He lapsed into silence for a short time. "So, what are we going to do now?"

Killed by his cousin? Well that was...special. Still Jack breezed past that, shrugging at Sirius's question. "Not sure. I'd like to get dressed at some point, maybe shower. Beyond that, not a clue. I usually work as a bartender at the Ice Room. You?"

Sirius looked at Jack and could only agree. "Yes, getting dressed is not the worst idea. And I could use a shower, too. When I woke up I was not really in the mood to shower, if you know what I mean. As for the job... I'm supposed to work in the Ice Room as well. But so far I've never been to work. I'm making a map of the resort and that takes some time."

He frowned. How could he go on with the creation of the map under these circumstances? He needed Dom's help and to run around the ground with four people... nah! Suddenly an idea struck his mind and his face lit up. "You can't draw, can ya?"

"Not really," Jack shook his head, maybe looking a bit sheepish. "I'm not really an artist." Didn't need to be when you weren't interested in but a few things.

"I'll get dressed, we'll go to your place and I'll sit out of the bathroom somewhere while you shower and then we'll see whee the day takes us?" Jack suggested.

Too bad that Jack could not draw. Maybe Sirius had to postpone his work until this something was over. He hoped that it would end at some point.

"Yeah, sounds like a plan. I can prepare breakfast in the meantime", Sirius suggested and then added: "The distance shouldn't be too far."

It had to at some point, didn't it? Jack had not been here as long as some others, but he did know that these things didn't last forever; winter hadn't, nor the seven sins. Still, he nodded, both at Sirius's offer and his remark.

"Sounds like a plan."

"Well, I'll just see what I can find." Sirius grinned and climbed down the stairs. He looked around the kitchen and rummaged through the kitchen cabinets and - what was it called again? Ah, yes - fridge. Sirius had to admit he felt a bit queasy, not sick but not so great either. So this was obviously how far they could be away from each other without the need to throw up. Great!

His cooking expedition ended with half-burned sausages, scrambled eggs and toast. He was just trying to scratch the last bits of the sausages onto the plates as he heard feet emerging from above.

Jack descended the stairs, hair still a bit damp, a grin on his face as the smell of breakfast entered his nostrils; even if it was a bit burnt, it still smelled delicious.

"You're a real treasure," he teased. "Making breakfast and everything. It is great."

„Finally someone notices my real worth.” Sirius laughed good-naturedly. He put the pan into the sink and cast a cleaning spell on it. Immediately the dishwashing brush began to do her work.

“But I totally rely on you for dinner. I’m a rubbish cook.”
