Sample Application: OC Professor
And what about those OCs? We love OCs. Below is a sample app for and OC and a professor at Xavier's. Remember, with an OC, we know nothing about this character, so it's up to you to give us a comprehensive overview of their life, personality, powers and so forth.
IC Information:
Name: Lawrence William Sutherland
Gender: Male
Race/Species: Mutant
Age: 35
Alignment: Lawful Good
Code Name: Shelter (pending!)
Affiliation: Xavier Institute
PB: David Beckham
Background:
It was a hot and steamy night in the jungles of Vietnam when Lawrence William Sutherland was born. This wasn't to say that he was born in Vietnam, but rather on a ranch not too far outside of the city of Denver, Colorado, to the wife of William Sutherland. Her husband was away on his first tour. They'd gotten married right before he shipped out almost nine months earlier, and now Beatrice (or Betty as she often liked to be called) had only the help of the local doctor and her couple of supportive church sisters to help her through the labor pains.
For the next two and a half years, Major William Sutherland would earn his rank, two Purple Hearts and a Medal of Honor while the war went on. Back in Colorado, his son would grow up in a much more relaxed environment where his biggest worries were feeding the pigs on time, not dropping the eggs that he gathered from the chickens, and dodging cattle hooves as they lumbered about. Ideally speaking, Lawrence was growing up just fine without his father. His mother felt differently though, as adults tended to be when they were worried about what was going on with their loved ones halfway across the globe.
When the Major returned from his stint in the war, he was quite obviously a changed man. Two and a half years had seen him wounded twice and battle-hardened in sweltering jungles where every turn of a leaf and shining light meant the possibility of a VC sniper waiting to pick off an officer and earn his own medal for taking out one of the enemy. The hardest thing to do was adjust to normal life in the peaceful quiet of the ranch in the Rockies, but Post Traumatic Stress Disorder wasn't in this man's dictionary. The Major tried finding joy in his wife again, in his growing son, and in the steady tempo of the lowing cows. He tried ignoring the reports of the war's progress. And for a few years, it worked well. Lawrence was too young to understand much more than the fact that sometimes, this man who was his father needed his space. Still, the Major wasn't unwelcoming of his son. In a way, it was Lawrence who kept the whole operation going.
By the time the US decided to pull out, so had Betty. Her marriage with William was on the ropes, ready to go down. The last knockout hit was when William discovered she had become pregnant with a second child - a child not conceived by him, but the local doctor who had helped in Lawrence's birth. Levi, Lawrence's half-brother, and Lawrence would end up to be quite neglected while The Major, Betty, and Dr. Sherman settled their differences in divorce court. Lawrence may not have understood so much of the details of the scandal behind such a happening in a small town, but he did recognize the sudden tidal wave of attention he received from The Major during and afterwards. Betty, Sherman and Levi would soon move away, and the Sutherland Ranch was sold to the Burmington family who moved in with their young daughter, Sherry.
The Major and Lawrence moved to a house that was nearby, but clearly smaller than the sprawling acreage that had made up their previous home. Life would drastically be altered, as without the feminine forces to soften things, home life became much like boot camp. Lawrence's studies were rigidly monitored, his activities scheduled out down to his meal times. Nowhere in the lives of these two males was there a hint of 'shenanigans' and 'useless hoo-hah'. As Lawrence got older though, he would enter into an outright rebellious phase. The generation gap between himself and his father had to be filled, and it was done through friends made at school and later on the beautiful daughter of the Burmingtons.
Lawrence took to working on the Burmington ranch, his former home, as a hired hand while he attended school. At first it was largely to get away from the militaristic reach of The Major, and being on his old home appealed to the boy as much as it did when he was a babe. Having extra money didn't hurt either, with the Burmingtons more than compensating for his services. It was better than being on the football team; besides, he was more the outdoor sports type than he was fit for padding, helmets, and crunching his bones against the body of another youth. In addition, few knew about the budding relationship between Sherry and "Larry", with fleeting moments stolen between them as he passed by with equipment and feed bags, or when he helped her saddle her riding horse (in reality, Sherry was quite capable of saddling her own horse, but she liked watching him do it instead).
Despite his rebellious stage, Lawrence didn't much delve into the real hardcore scene of drugs and alcohol that some of his peers had swung into. Perhaps it was by virtue of being able to find a different outlet through more honest work and Sherry's company that he kept himself fit and upright, not faltering and scrounging for another hit. Perhaps it was simply the terrifying consequences that would have come of The Major finding out. Regardless, there would be a completely different development in Lawrence's life that would change him. In a catastrophic fire that engulfed the Burmington ranch's barn, it was Lawrence who rushed into the burning building to save the animals. In the midst of the fire, his powers manifested. The fire had weakened the rafters holding up the roof, and as it caved in, Lawrence's defensive force fields covered him long enough to allow him to slip out of the side door unscathed. Everyone outside thought it was a miracle of Heaven, but Lawrence knew what had happened in the barn. He would end up telling no one about the incident, though it haunted him at the back of his mind.
Following the awakening of his powers, Lawrence seemed to peter out in his rebellious streak and take up a sort of discipline once again. In a way, it was his denial of his powers and an attempt to be 'human'. The Major noticed this sudden spike in the boy following his orders to the letter and regarded it with suspicion, but there was no real evidence that something he might've said or done had gone wrong. He chalked it up as a stage of maturation - after all, he'd been a hot shot himself. Hell, he still was, underneath that grit and gristle. The Major was then also seeing a woman, Rebecca Statler. She was his therapist, hired to truly deal with the roots of his supposed Issues, but their constant butting of heads was somewhat of a ritualistic dance that lead to a mild romance. Lawrence himself took to seeing Sherry more and more, working long hours on the ranch and devoting his time between studying and work. The arrangement was well and working, save for a 'small' incident that ended up with Lawrence running from the ranch in just his jeans, chased by Sherry's shotgun wielding father and narrowly avoiding spreadshot. He even got called a coyote. It was really bad.
Eventually though, Sherry's father and The Major had their words with each other (rather, there were more words from Sherry's father and more staring down from The Major) and there were some agreements made. Sherry wasn't to be alone with him while he was working on the ranch, and were she to visit the Sutherlands, they were to stay in the living room where The Major's accomplishments displayed themselves dauntingly. Mood-killingly.
In the meantime, The Major made sure to continue pressing Lawrence in his schooling. Above anything else, though, Lawrence was pressured to join the path of his bloodline and go into the military. The Major went through great pains to arrange his enlisting into West Point, using words he hardly ever spoke to get the Senator's recommendation (though it really wasn't needed) and steely eyed stares at his son when grades were getting to be less than satisfactory. In an effort to comply and stay below his father's radar, Lawrence agreed to the registration. It would be a heartbreaking departure between him and Sherry, but promises were made. He would find a way to really support her as a man, and she could go on to do her work towards her own dreams. He gave her a ring, symbolic of a promise that perhaps one day, he would be able to slip another one around her left finger.
West Point was a direction meant for Lawrence. He had spent the years following his realization of his being a mutant quietly training himself to /suppress/ the urge to use the power, but the academy made the reasons for such acts even clearer. In those years, Lawrence would be too busy to think about his differences from the rest of the human population. Instead, he was honed and shaped into a fine army officer, ready to be a cohesive unit with his fellow soldiers. Outside of his classes and regular cadet training, Lawrence joined the lacrosse and rifle teams at the academy. While his skills with the sports weren't at the top of those games, Lawrence certainly had his fair share of shining moments in both fields.
And The Major? He couldn't have been prouder, but that was no excuse for him to be less than expectant of his son to match him (and perhaps, surpass him). Rebecca and The Major eventually got married as Lawrence left the Sutherland home, and a year later Lawrence received the news that he had a younger sister named Carrie. The news was a bit of a shock, but being quite a ways away, there was little protest to be had in the matter.
Lawrence took his commission as a 2nd Lieutenant and continued working in the military, helping develop new technology for the armory. War broke out. Desert Storm saw Lawrence in the thick of the ground forces, leading a small group of soldiers on towards retaking a point of strategic value. The battle however, wasn't going well in spite of the reports back home. The opposing side had the advantage of knowing the ins and outs of their city, and Lawrence's group was stuck. One man was down, another was losing his nerve, and the medic, Ian Wilkens, was on his last shots of emergency morphine. The situation was grim, and Lawrence was screaming into his radio for backup. Before he could relay coordinates however, mortars hit the building they had holed up in and like the burning barn from years ago the roof came crashing down to crush the soldiers. Desperately, Lawrence formed his defensive shields against the falling debris and saved them all. But now he had exposed himself as a mutant to at least one of his squad. Ian was more than shocked, not only to be alive, but to have been in the company of a mutant.
It was his mutation that had saved their lives that day, and Lawrence still was terrified of the consequences. At a point, he thought he might've been better off dead and buried in the rubble, with a flag sent back to The Major. But from that dire situation came a new bond between Lawrence and Ian. The medic went on to be one of Lawrence's best allies, and Ian would deliberately cover up traces in his savior's medical records that might expose him. The pair of them would survive the war, returning to New York hailed as heroes. Lawrence would come back with promotions to the rank of Captain, something that The Major was nigh bursting out of his dress uniform with pride from. Finally, the two of them saw each other more as relative equals, though for Lawrence, The Major was still above him and his mutation was still a subject that would not be addressed. Particularly, at Christmas time.
The family had all gathered, and Lawrence traveled back to Colorado to visit them. But more importantly, he'd gone back to find Sherry. There were a great many things he'd wanted to tell her, but most of all Lawrence wanted to really propose. That one holiday season though, proved to be a bittersweet reunion. Sherry, it turns out, hadn't waited the way Lawrence had. She married another man, Jonathan Hamilton of a much more upper class echelon and Harvard alum, and together they had two beautiful children. Lawrence, angry though he was, graciously admitted his defeat and withdrew.
After they'd returned to the States, Ian would decide to part ways from the military life and return to civilian standings. He went on to pursue medical school, using what he learned to bolster his skills. For Lawrence, there would be a suggestion that he too take up something that wouldn't cut him off from the ways of the world he'd fought to protect. Ian urged Lawrence to pursue something outside of the military, and in their discussions the subject of teaching came up. It was something completely different alright, and to that extent Lawrence had been intrigued. Smarting from the blow in his romantic life, he threw himself into a life of study and work. Contacts within his military background and strong recommendations landed Lawrence acceptance to many a school for top candidates, but in the end he chose to attend a less notable civilian university in the state of New York. He went on to earn his teaching certification there, a B.A. in English, and continued studying in mechanical and electrical engineering.
Teaching was somewhat of a sore point between The Major and Lawrence. Where he had hoped for his son to follow a strict military career, it was at least a sign of Rebecca's therapy and young Carrie's growth working on The Major that he gradually, grudgingly, accepted his son's work in the field of education. Lawrence taught at a local high school, teaching at times computer science as well as the occasional coaching of the junior varsity and varsity lacrosse and rifle teams. He had a good setup, but there would be times that his mutation was itching at the back of his mind. He was able to sense mutations and powers in the young students who passed through his classes, but in his mind there was nothing he could do. It was almost painful to watch as one time, a student's mutation was discovered and they were bullied to the point of having to transfer to another district. Lawrence, for all his training and strict background, was helpless in this field.
Then like a light drawing a moth towards its flame, a representative of the Xavier Institute came to one of the school's fairs. Only this representative hadn't come for merely the students, but to contact Lawrence as well. He would know the moment he stepped into the room to meet this representative that they were the only ones in the room who were different from the rest. At the end of the small meeting, as parents and their children shuffled away with brochures in hand, the rep came up to Lawrence to ask him if he'd like to attend this school as well. It was slightly insulting at first. After all he'd gone through, why would he need more training? But the rep was cunning, and in that hour's worth of conversation, Lawrence was hooked. In a way, the offer to teach at this institute that was filled with mutants like himself was a path parting the murky waters that had plagued his life ever since he was a young boy. And, he realized, he really did have so much to learn.
Personality:
Lawrence usually has about him a natural charisma. He can be competitive, but he acts on the concepts of upholding what is good in his mind. He can take a curious interest in things going on around him, and will often seek out new things to do or learn just for the stimulation. He is a self-confident man but even he does have his insecurities, particularly when it comes to the touchy subject of his mutant nature and the fact that the majority of his friends and family do not know of his being a mutant. There are also times when Lawrence can be overbearing and demanding, at times egotistical and stubborn, and it shows the most when he is trying to get someone to understand his point of view. Frustration comes not too easily, but it does come in such situations.
He is a man with intellect and talent, born and bred to be one who walks on the straight and narrow. But deep down, there is also a creative side to Lawrence - a force that makes him strive to be creative and independent. He is a humanitarian, and will often stop to help someone he thinks is in need of aid if he is capable of giving it. He will step forward to take charge when the situation calls, and he carries a high standard in that regard, demanding others to conform to his orders and actions in order to carry out an objective. He is a progressive thinker most of the time, holding an innovative mind inside that is often covered over by his outward projection of steadiness, duty, honor and loyalty.
If one were to describe him in a medieval sense, he would be a knight, albeit not one that goes out on outrageous quests readily. He can be brave and chivalrous, but he is sensible enough to know when something isn't right or too dangerous to undertake.
Resources:
* As a commissioned officer, Lawrence received regular payment. Now he has been honorably discharged and has not re-enlisted, so he doesn't receive any monetary compensation on that end. But, he did put the money he received towards savings. At his teaching job, he was getting quite a decent salary for a high school teacher because of his qualifications and certifications. In the future, he'd be receiving pay for working at Xavier Institute as a professor. However much this pays is what he makes.
* His father, William Sutherland, does have a will that gives Lawrence the house they lived in, in Colorado and a section of his monetary estate (which is actually worth a good few million dollars on its own; Lawrence's father is a man who invested a lot into valuable assets, land and items in the past that have taken off well). The other parts of the estate currently are willed to his wife and daughter.
* Lawrence does own firearms that are legally registered, bought and paid for. Nothing ridiculous, but a decent arsenal of a couple hand pistols, couple rifles, and a shotgun that he takes out for hunting or sport shooting.
* Angel Feather (from an actual angel): An encounter with an angel left Lawrence in possession of one of her feathers. The angelic feather was willingly given as a gift. It has its own highly powerful holy aura, protecting the one carrying it from demons and undead beings. He wears this item on a small leather thong attached to the dogtags that he also wears around his neck, so that the feather rests usually around his heart. The only time he is without the feather is when he takes it off to shower.
Powers:
Lawrence is... a very powerful mutant. His powers are, in a sense, linked to the energies of the universe - powers cosmic, if you will - and his current level of ability is largely due to the deeper instinct that acknowledges that link and allows him to adapt situation by situation. In most cases of his past, his powers came out either innately or in a scenario when he was defending himself in such a way that would try to ensure survival. Because of his largely untrained state, much of his knowledge of how to control these powers of his is weak. His force fields are the only power he has tried to train to some extent, and much of that is simply to see how well he can keep it controlled down so it wouldn't come up unexpectedly in a situation that would expose him as a mutant. This largely explains his initial simple, 'raw' state of his powers that he'd be coming onto the game with. Over time and in an environment where he may be able to freely train his powers, the extensions will become better and clearer, and he would gain more control over his powers.
Since coming to Xavier's, Lawrence has been slowly training under the tutelage of the X-Men as well, undergoing exercises to learn about his powers. He's a good student, but not necessarily as fast as the more experienced trainees. Much of his training is an in-situation, on-site, on-call basis. And he hasn't stopped with his own self-training.
* Genetics Detection - With the power to perceive and decipher genetic codes, Lawrence is able to identify mutants and other non-human beings so long as they have some kind of biological genetic code. This innate power is always "on" and usually extends to about 5 feet around him. Boosted to its full (the absolute max) potential, he could reach to a 1000 mile radius around him. On average, the range can be extended to about 50 feet around.
* Powers Detection - This capability is that of perceiving and recognizing supernatural powers, and sensing the potential within a person for wielding said powers. He can determine where the power stems from, such as if it is a result of mutation, or magic, or some other sort of other dimensional power. If he's never learned to name a certain power, he would still be able to detect it and interpret on an innate level, but as far as explaining to someone else what it might be, he would be at a loss unless he was taught to know what he was dealing with. What this power doesn't do is detect non-supernatural powers such as how much a human can bench press or how fast they can run. It doesn't work on non-living entities such as machines. Like the Genetics Detection power, the full potential of its range is a 1000 mile radius, but regularly stays about 5 feet around him. Also like the genetics detection power, it projects on average to 50 feet around and this innate power is always "on".
* Evolving/Adaptive Force Field - This powers describes the ability to create force fields at will, designed to block out whatever type of energy/force is attempting to make its way past the barrier. While mostly designed to keep things out, the field can also keep things within its confines. The field is able to be projected; meaning, he does not have to be within the field to make one. With himself as one point and the field's centerpoint on the ground as another, the maximum range of projection is 1000 feet. As far as the size and shape, it manifests mostly in a spherical bubble about his person. It can, however, be modified to be of any shape and appear in one or a few particular directions, conform to his body directly, or potentially reach up and block off an entire skyscraper. The number of fields he can produce is potentially unlimited, though the practicality in projecting thousands of force fields is truly foolhardy; in such cases, they manifest in numbers of two or three smaller fields, or one larger, extended one.
Damage thresholds are where his level of power expresses itself to be at an extremely high level. In the past, his fields manifested with just enough power to protect himself from mundane dangers. Potentially speaking, his fields could have enough of a damage threshold to withstand multiple punches from The Hulk, or hard energy blasts from Vulcan, or maybe even more were he able to take it. Maintaining such a level of power always takes its toll on mind and body, and more than likely the field would not last long; not because of the damage threshold being broken through, but because his physical condition would not hold out to such pressure without help.
The adaptive, or evolving, quality of the force field stems from its link to his detection capabilities. The force field will adapt itself according to the purpose it serves, protection or containment of the forces/powers it is designed to protect against. So, Lawrence first ends up detecting what the nature of the power incoming is, and the force field can be changed accordingly to defend against it.
Skills and Talents:
* Lawrence is a trained military officer, Captain in the U.S. Army. Having graduated from West Point (USMA), he holds a B.S. with backgrounds in engineering and sciences as well as years of research and work in the military development labs. He also has teaching certification, and a B.A. in English from a 4-year university. He is a rather intelligent individual in comparison to the average person.
* Foreign languages wise, he's taken university level classes in French for a couple of years, and his service overseas allowed him to pick up a little bit of conversational Arabic. Nothing substantial, but it was enough to get by.
* He is well-trained in the art of hand-to-hand combat, again from his military background, and would be classified as quite capable of killing another person were that ever to come up in court. He continues to train himself and keep himself in great physical condition.
* Trained in firearms from an early age, being on the rifle team in the military academy and bolstered with Army training, Lawrence knows his guns, how to maintain, and how to shoot them at things. He can be quite dangerous with a loaded firearm.
* Aside from being able to get around in an urban environment, Lawrence has had plenty of experience in working on and maintaining a ranch. He can ride horses just fine, herd animals about, fix a broken fence, oil up a saddle, etc. Falling within this similar category, he can survive in the wilderness as well, and has had training beyond the average hiker or camper to do so.
Possible NPCs:
The Major, William John Sutherland (Relation: Father) -- Born: 1955. (Age: 52) A military career man, The Major (as he has been called by far too many associates and therefore has gotten stuck with the title, even since before he had the rank) has seen many events in his lifetime. A member of 1st Infantry Division, 2nd Brigade (Dagger Brigade), he was 1 out of 11 to receive Medal of Honor in his group during the Vietnam War. Though he never joined another conflict, he did travel a bit to lecture at various bases and training centers throughout the US. He is a recognized man in and amongst his circles, straightforward and straightlaced. Over the years, he has become more of a pillar in his district as one of the men who actually go to the public meetings and is a contributing member of the community.
Personality: The Major is every bit of a military officer, in all senses of the phrase. He's been through the wild and crazy times, and now that he's a bit older he's slowed down some - just not too much. Every problem he faces has a solution. Not one to ever give up, he is hardnosed in the sense that The Major is often set in no nonsense routines and dislikes changes to them. He can't help but recognize that time changes everything though, and with Rebecca by him, guiding, he has help to adapt and understand.
Rebecca Sutherland (Maiden name: Statler, Relation: Stepmother) -- Born: 1963. (Age: 44) Rebecca went into social and abnormal psychology after attending the University of Michigan. She was finishing her second doctorate in Colorado when she met The Major under a psych study he reluctantly attended. From then, their relationship grew from subsequent meetings through therapy sessions, but she helped him in more ways than he'd admit. Today, the pair are still living in Colorado, raising Carrie.
Personality: Very intelligent, very compassionate, Rebecca is strong-willed and strong-hearted woman who will work through problems and confront others if she feels there is need. One gets the impression that had she chosen business instead of psychology, she'd have been quite a powerhouse. Today she still practices in a medical clinic, joint therapy program at the local hospital.
Carrie Sutherland (Relation: Younger Half Sister) -- Born: 1994. (Age: 13) Carrie, being as young as she is, hasn't gotten very much exposure experience wise. Her experiences she does have all fall in line with a normal young girl in middle school. She's fairly attractive and has a good head on her shoulders, so her classmates treat her rather well. Her father's strictness and mother's compassion have come into good balance for a growing girl.
Personality: Not quite as strong willed as her two parents, Carrie is much more a girl who takes things in stride and goes with the flow. At times, she might be considered weak in that regard, bending to the whims of others. On the other hand, she's a rather intelligent girl and charismatic if she chooses to be. If she were to run for an office in the administrative student body, it'd probably be secretary or treasurer.
Mutant Power: Unknown to anyone but Lawrence, Carrie is a mutant. Her mutant power is Danger/Combat Sense. Power Descriptor: This power heightens the senses of the PC during times of battle, letting reflexes respond almost as fast as the signals get to the brain. In Carrie's case, she gets an extra dodge per round of combat in addition to her other actions, and if she were to train she could potentially be very skilled at reading and countering an attack. Lawrence has not told anyone of Carrie's mutant power, as at the time he did meet her she had not yet manifested it, nor was he all that certain of it as he was still an amateur in understanding his own mutant powers at the time.
Beatrice Sherman (Relation: Mother) -- Born: 1956. (Age: 54); She made the mistake of falling in love with The Major when they were young, and ended up pregnant at 16 years old with Lawrence. She did manage to care for Lawrence with help, which came in the form of Dr. Sherman. All in all an average woman as she grew older, she became content with being a housewife, participating in PTA meetings and the like. Now that she's largely on her own though, she's hoping for Gerald to retire so they can go traveling together.
Personality: She was the typical nice girl, growing up in a religious household. However, she had her own little wild side as a result which landed her in the hot waters of divorce after her adultery. After coming away with nothing though, she learned her lesson. Now she tries her hardest to be a model housewife, but it is awfully tempting to go back to being bad. The only thing that keeps her from doing so, aside from age, is knowing that she'd lose everything.
Gerald Patrick Sherman, M.D. (Relation: Stepfather) -- Born: 1948. (Age: 59); Unlike The Major, Gerald Sherman dodged the draft. Protested, even, and attended a top university which led to his entry into a top medical school. The school was great. Gerald's brains, not quite as much, but enough to get him his MD. The man practiced around and transferred to Colorado for more of the scenery change than anything, and ended up becoming fast friends, then adulterous lovers, and finally the second husband to Beatrice. Despite his mistakes, he is an overall decent man, and will likely retire at 60. Now he practices near and in UCLA Medical.
Personality: Dr. Sherman has a presentable front and a decent back. In other words, he's a good guy, but there's some times you wonder what the good doctor is hiding. In his case, a love affair in which he stole the wife of one of his family patients. He's introverted, but he does have his passions. What he doesn't really have much of is a temper, and sometimes he is too lenient on discipline simply because he has enough of it to go around the hospital.
Levi Sherman (Relation: Younger Half Brother) Born: 1976. (Age: 31); Levi hasn't had much contact, if any, with Lawrence. He grew up believing his mother and father were the perfect couple, and it wasn't until later that he'd heard of his mother's first marriage and his subsequent half brother. Still, Levi never cared enough to pursue contact with his mother's ex-husband and family. He grew up in Los Angeles, and fell in with the city crowd. The boy grew up to be businessman, making sales for entertainment companies in and around Hollywood.
Personality: Levi's rather cutthroat when it comes to getting his way. Persistent, aggressive, stubborn and at times annoying, he is your typical Angeleno. One thing Levi can't stand? Mutants. They make for sensationalistic media and pointless discussions up in Washington. Hope Cure? That was the best thing that could've happened, and the proof that mutant terrorists like Magneto need to be stopped is exactly that for the justification of such measures taken to stop them. Levi himself is very human, and representative of those who live unaware of their own fear and bias.
Ian Wilkens (Relation: Friend in First Iraq War) Born: 1970 (Age: 37). One of Lawrence's war buddies, Ian was the medic for the group. Though he'd never encountered a mutant previous to Lawrence, the fact that Lawrence saved the lives of the men in the platoon with his power was enough to convince Ian that mutants weren't as bad as the media wanted to portray. After all, humans have done plenty of wrong to themselves without supernaturally powered help. After the war, though, Ian had gotten turned off of military ideals. He focused on medicine, and ended up furthering his studies to go on to medical school. Today he is a practicing surgeon in a hospital in Albany, New York.
Personality: Ian's a good man. He doesn't judge people until they give him reason to produce judgment, and even then he's fair. Some would say he's a bit too independent at times, and doesn't necessarily work well with people outside of the operating room, but he does try.
