I love all the canon details of this, and the characterisation of Voldemort/Tom. From his discussion with the Grey Lady, and his manipulaiton of her:

Through the conversation with the snake (a personality in her own right) to his treatment of the old (Muggle) woman - chilling.
It reads like a missing legend from the Wizarding World.
