WHO: Teddy & Lisa WHAT: Chatting WHERE: Her flat RATING: PG STATUS: Done
Valentine's Day was coming up, only a couple weeks away, and Lisa had no idea what her and Michael were going to do. While things were still good for them, she couldn't help thinking things were a bit different between them since she told him that she loved him. At least Christmas and New Year's hadn't been awkward.
While she was working on picking up the place, she heard a knock on the door to her and Mandy's flat. She didn't have plans with Michael, that she knew of, and Mandy wasn't there so it couldn't be someone for her. Maybe it was a surprise visit from Michael. Lisa opened the door and it wasn't who she expected at all at the door. "Hello. Would you like to come in?"
Teddy was getting better at popping up unannounced even if part of him still felt it rude. He supposed old habits died hard, but his newer friends seemed to find such exact planning odd. Why not just drop in if in the neighborhood? Teddy guessed it had its merits, but what if it was an inopportune time?
When Lisa opened the door, he smiled. He had gotten to know her a bit better since spending time with Mandy, but he knew they weren't exactly best mates. "Hullo, there. I was wondering if you girls were busy?"
Lisa shook her head. "It's just me and not very busy at all," she told him, standing aside to allow him into the flat. "Nothing particularly exciting going on here today." She hadn't seen him there all that often, but she knew that he hung out with Mandy and had talked to him the few times when both girls had been there. And of course at the parties and journals. "So what brings you by today? Bored?"
Teddy felt a little strange without Mandy there, but he couldn't very well turn around and leave so he stepped through the door with a smile. "Now, maybe I just missed you lovelies!"
"Well, too bad Mandy isn't here as well. She's off being her spectacular chaser self at Quidditch practice. Too busy to be having fun here." Lisa grinned. "Can I get you anything? Food or a drink?"
Chuckling, Teddy made himself comfortable on the couch and nodded. "Sure, some pop maybe? May I help?"
"All right. And sure, you can help." Lisa replied as she went into the kitchen to get a pop for Teddy and herself.
He followed her into the kitchen and pulled out two glasses. "Here you go. See what a help I am?" He teased.
Lisa laughed. "Thank you. And I think you just became more helpful than Michael."
Teddy placed a hand over his heart. "Does that take much?" He asked, pretending to be flattered. "I'm so pleased!"
"Not much at all." Lisa replied. "Again, thank you. You've been a big help!"
"See? Knew he was a louse," Teddy teased as he sat down, drink in hand.
"He is just a little bit." Lisa grinned. "But I love him anyway."
Teddy rasped his eyebrows. "That serious, hm?"
"I don't know. I mean, I know I love him so from my end it is serious." Lisa didn't think there was anything wrong with telling Teddy this. She may have not known him well, but it was nice to tell someone outside of her friends who were friends with Michael as well. "I don't know about him."
He was a little surprised that she opened up to him like that, but it also pleased him. Outside Hogwarts and war, everything seemed so much easier. "He'd be a fool not to," he assured before he took a sip of his drink. "A smart and pretty woman like yourself." He smiled sweetly at her.
"Thanks, Teddy. I certainly hope he isn't a fool." She really wanted Michael to say it back to her, but she didn't want to push him to say it. Lisa didn't want anything bad to happen between the two of them.
Sensing something was off, Teddy frowned. "Hey, are you alright there?"
"I'm fine." Lisa wasn't really sure if she was or not.
He didn't want to push, but there was something that didn't seem "fine" at all. "Not astounding?" He joked.
She shook her head. "I wish." She sighed, "I just wish I knew what he was thinking."
Teddy almost said Michael never thought, but caught himself in time. He'd leave the jabs for Draco. "I'm sure he's thinking he's one lucky bloke."
"Would that be what you would think, if you were in his place?" Lisa asked.
"Of course," Teddy said, trying hard not to think about Hannah. He had a great girl and let her go, but there was no use dwelling. "I told you. You are brilliant, Lisa."
Lisa smiled. "Thanks, Teddy. Can I ask you a personal question? Regarding when you dated Hannah?" She was curious as to whether Teddy had ever told Hannah that he loved her when they had dated, but she didn't want to ask something personal like that without knowing if it was okay.
Teddy shifted in his seat, clearly uncomfortable. "Well, we didn't work out so it doesn't really matter, does it?"
"I think it does." She had noticed that he seemed a bit uncomfortable. "I won't mention anything more about it if it makes you uncomfortable."
"Sometimes it is not enough," Teddy answered, glancing toward one of the pictures adorning Lisa and Mandy's flat wall. "Love, I mean."
"Love isn't enough?"
"No."
"Why is that?" Lisa asked. "So if Michael doesn't love me, it doesn't matter because it isn't enough?"
Teddy's face scrunched up as he thought about what she said. "I don't know. I mean it's nice to feel love, of course, but it is not...it is not the only thing that keeps a relationship, you know?"
"I know it's not the only thing, but it would be nice if love was all that mattered."
Teddy shrugged his shoulders. He definitely hadn't planned on getting into such a deep conversation when he stopped by. "Are you...I mean you don't have to tell me, but are you and Michael having...well, issues?"
She wasn't sure if there were issues. She knew that they were fine, but it was the whole 'I love you' incident that bothered her. "I don't know. I told him that I loved him a couple months ago and I guess I just surprised him, but I don't know."
Ouch. Teddy tried not to visibly betray how embarrassed he felt for her. "He didn't...say anything?"
Lisa shook her head. "No, he didn't. Not at first. Then he said thank you?"
"Not at first? So he's said it then?" Teddy bit his lip as he imagined Michael saying "thank you" to Lisa. Suddenly, he was glad to be alone. At least he didn't have to worry about putting his foot in his mouth anymore.
"No. He hasn't said it. I meant, he didn't say anything at all at first." Lisa paused. "I'm sorry for dumping all this on you. I shouldn't have brought it up."
"No, no. It's alright," Teddy quickly said, hoping she didn't take anything he said the wrong way. "I'm sorry he doesn't realise what a great girl he has."
"Well, thanks for listening." Lisa smiled a little. She did appreciate having been able to tell someone.
"Have you talked to him about it?" Teddy pressed, but then blushed. He was probably being too nosy. "I mean, us blokes can be a bit thick."
"I haven't. I don't want to push him away and talking about it, it might seem like I want him to say it when he doesn't." Lisa chuckled softly. "Yeah, you blokes can be a bit thick at times."
"But does it bother you?"
"It does bother me some." Lisa answered.
Teddy didn't have the magic answer for her. It would have bothered him too. "Then maybe you should tell him."
A part of her knew that it was probably the right thing to do, talk to Michael about it, but she was still unsure. "I won't push him away, will I?"
Teddy paused. He didn't want to speculate. He barely knew Michael and didn't much like him in the first place. "Well, if you do, that's a clue, isn't it?"
"I suppose." Lisa hoped that he wouldn't.
"Hey, now." Teddy reached over to squeeze her arm. "It will be alright no matter what happens, yeah? It's better to know than let it fester."
Lisa half smiled. "Yeah. You are right. Guess I will talk to him when I see him next."
Teddy smiled back while wishing his advice didn't get anyone mad at him. "Good luck, yeah? And if you need a shoulder, you know where I am."
