Kingsley was restless, deeply frustrated by the fact that he was not directly involved in any of the current three cases he was really interested in. Not. A. Single. One.
Not yet, at least.
Personally he thought it was a load of tosh when he was told by his Senior Auror it was too dangerous for any of the trainees to be involved at the present time. Adding that Kingsley under no circumstances was to do any kind of investigation on his own, just because he might be personally interested, just added insult to injury. Because he would've otherwise. Now, it would be going against a direct order if he did.
Bollocks.
That hadn't stopped him before of course, and it wouldn't this time, because he knew it was important that everybody in the Auror Force took part in this. He would at least take a look at the 'man on the street' and see if there was any clues to pick up without being too obvious about it. Diagon Alley was as good a place to start as any and then Knockturn Alley.
There was obviously no point in trying to be inconspicuous given his height and build, so Kingsley didn't even try, simply dressing in a plain robe over his normal clothes. He wasn't on duty after all (and yet he was, naturally).
Casually he strolled past the windows, pretending to look at the exhibited goods while actually watching and listening to those passing him by.
