[Weren't many upsides to the clinic. Had G in it, which was an upside, but Dyl didn't think of that as 'the clinic'. Not the way he thought of the place with the doc and the lab-coat behind door no. 4. G was an upside and he spent three days in the city at her bedside. Dragged a little, but that was kinda normal right now, after the month rolled all the way through. Could have been worrying, but Dylan didn't get into worry. Mostly, he wasn't done thinking over M and P and getting followed to the stupid bar, and he had it permanent, like sucking candy dissolving solid on the back of his tongue. He got done with G who was going in for another battery of tests and he picked up his ass from the bedside to the place three corridors over and down and got stuck with needles, bloods for tomorrow's hit.

Not many upsides to the clinic, but the burger place two minutes' walk. Eaten a lot there since G got picked up, mostly because the first three months they'd tried the shit on him, he'd hoovered three meals straight in one sitting and the appetite didn't slow much. Burned right through whatever he put in him, and it wasn't bouillabaisse or french onion or nothing Julia made on TV but it was bulk and calories and he figured that was enough. He had a piece of cotton taped over the crook of his elbow, because his veins were hard now, stuck too many goddamn times and he stopped to peel the tape back in the hallway, watching the blood still ooze upward. It was kinda fascinating because it didn't happen most of the month. Didn't bleed long, so it was proof. Skip a few months and maybe he'd be one hundred percent regular human, no freak-outs, no disappointment thick like a bad smell in a car on the ride back to Repose.

Saw the kid. Kid had been there nearly as long as Dylan had, Con. Same waiting room, same spread of magazines, same look. Caught Con's eye, deliberate and he cocked his head. Toward the burger place. Curiosity, maybe it was just not wanting to wait out the full 24 until they'd checked his blood was clean solo, but he jerked his head like it was kinda almost an invite. ]
