Re: [The grills: Castor & Pollux]
"I don't think that makes the feelings wrong." Will gave a soft shrug. "To me, that's just the fact that language is crap at conveying what we really mean sometimes, or that the words get all tangled up in how we feel and come out wrong. I think the feelings we have about them are all pretty fair." Certainly he'd brought about a fair share of harsh words in the last few years, and it played a tone in a his voice just then. "But, between you and me? I think it's good you're no good at telling people what they want to hear. Me? I'm a big fan of the flat truth." He gave a pointed nod at the end then and settled into the rest of the dialogue with an easy lean as the food was plated.
"Not to be disagreeable, but I like disagreements. It either changes what I think because someone brings up something I haven't thought about before, or it helps me reinforce what I think by having me think about the position from a different perspective." Another shrug. Will liked the look of the world from other people's shoes. He even liked it when, at times like these, what was being shown to him might not have been the most conventional portrait in the world.
Will didn't miss the way she lit up all anew, any more than he did the rather frank candor she had about death. He didn't look down on it or pity her for it though. That wasn't his way. What was his way however, like the way he smiled across the table at her when she shared the names of her friends and enjoyed the food, was try to throw a splash of fresh color on the canvas. She'd clearly seen some things, lived a life that had normalized things he never would have chosen as normal for anyone. It was presumptuous of him to be sure, but he trusted his gut. Besides, he really did like talking to her and making new friends, and that alone was motivation to make a point to reach out again down the road.
"Reece, Addie, Mars, Jamie, and David." He repeated each name back, in the order they'd been given, as a sign he'd been paying attention to her. "If you like 'em, I'm sure I'll find somethin' I do too, and I really appreciate you passing the names along. Getting by in a new place can be hard without knowing good people." A pointed pause, a bite of food was taken.
"Speaking of, you don't be a stranger okay? I'm a pretty big fan of being your Castor." He mirrored the possessiveness, but took it as a sign of something unique to them and nothing more. "And I'd be just fine with keeping on as Mysterious Will and Interesting Hannah too." He smirked, before going back to the food for a minute. "Can teach you how to work a camera too, if you'd ever been interested." He sweetened the pot shamelessly at the end, before he broke into a chuckle at her last question.
Oh, this should be good. Sigyn chimed, taking a vested interest in his reply that almost made Will roll his eyes.
"Special's the word for it, but I'm not so sure in the way you mean. We got a piece of shared past, a real sore spot where our lives crashed together." He was being literal and the shadow fell across his expression for the first time.
The truth? William, I'm shocked. And applauding your semantics. Will just sighed, sipping at the beer.
"So we're figuring that out." He finally answered. "And you can bet your bottom dollar, if I make any other friends here? I'll be quick to share them with you too." He sprinkled the warmth back in, easy as turning kabobs and sharing a happy moment with his new friend.
