Re: Outside Music Store: Mathias & Claire
"No, but our paths crossed now, which is still proof the world is smaller than we think." Claire beamed once more, all light and cheer, entirely pleased to have company for the time being. "I don't," she clarified, "Want to go back, that is." It was quick, decisive, and more than likely not at all referring to the geographical location but instead something on a much deeper and personal level.
"Well, Math, jellybean," Claire could use names just as easy, but she preferred anonymous little nicknames that gave the illusion of an easy intimacy. She glanced down at the ground for a moment before picking up a small speckled pebble. The little black and white stone rolled to the middle of her gloved palm as she held her hand out to present it to him, "Tell me what is interesting about this rock." It was an exercise. She did have a point, and she'd get to it. She liked to interact with people and this was one of her ways to learn how they saw the world. The questions were always different, but the intent behind them was the same; to find the extraordinary in the mundane.
As he spoke of the carnival, Claire softened visibly. Sure, maybe she wouldn't have used the term 'chaos', but she understood what he meant. One of her greatest joys in life was watching other people enjoy the precious moments of their lives. She pushed the heart shaped glasses to the top of her head, and looked up at him with those slate grey eyes that had seen more than anyone should have of her physical age. "That's beautiful. Most people like the rides." She smirked, lazy and confident, but his words had made her slightly starry-eyed. It was refreshing to hear. "Let's go. I want to see the carnival as you do."
But then he asked about ice cream. She grinned once more, "I'm a simple woman. I have a weakness for waffle cones, and the best ones are there." But they turned away from the ice cream shoppe and headed down Main towards Center. "What else do you need to like about ice cream?"
