If there'd only been two contractions... she'd read the books, and she knew they should have time before the baby arrived. Not forever, but enough time. She nodded as Manning helped her into the truck, wincing a little and using his arm and then his shoulder to help boost herself up as best she could. She had to catch her breath once she was settled in the seat, waiting as he dug in back for the stopwatch.
"I'll keep track. Can you call William?" That seemed like the best idea, even though he had to be driving too. She glanced over and caught that grin and couldn't help smiling a little herself. "If I don't have to be a pumpkin while giving birth, I'd rather not..." Her voice shook a little on the last word, a bit of her nerves sneaking out. She was glad for his hand when he offered it and clung, lacing her fingers between his. And a soft whisper: "...it's time."
