He had no false hopes about his baby behaving, and made no promises that he would either, even when she pinched his wrist playfully. "Think it's a little late now," Manning murmured, grinning as his hand spanned wider across her stretched belly.
The sharp inhale got his attention though. He was used to the sounds of her little aches, the false contractions that made her hurt, and he paused, waiting to hear more about the pain that it was causing. Except it wasn't short, like cramp, or the momentary twinge of a muscle that had gotten tight while they slept. It was longer.
"Iris? Is it still hurting?" Even as he asked, he looked down at the second hand of his watch to start timing it. They almost hadn't come because it was so close to her due date, but in the end decided to for one last night out before their baby arrived.
