Re: quicklog: abe/sasha apple cart
[She cackled, forgoing anything serious in either tone or what she said.] I bet it's like that ride at Epcot that spins you around so fast you think you've lost gravity. NASA used to use that, until they got better technology. IMAX or something. [A knowing nod that could have been genuinely knowledgeable if it wasn't for her toothy grin.
Though her eyebrows raised a bit at the easy comment and she smirked.] What about French snacks? Like, uh, brie and butter sandwiches. What Jerry Horne eats. [See? She knew Twin Peaks.] Wait, he's pretty easy, too... Oh well.
[No one got to see her get all squishy, because being squishy got you killed where she came from. She was learning that not everywhere was like Jersey. Slowly. Abe was helping her in that sense, where she wanted to be that good person he deserved. She just wasn't sure if she could do it. But his smile and shrug made her wonder if he even wanted what she thought he deserved. Maybe he was a masochistic fish with a death wish.
Sasha let him take her hand, surprised that he would, especially considering the question he asked. And the answer came out in a tumble, one word after the other like an out of control cart barreling down a hill where one stone in the path would cause the whole thing to explode.] She was crying. She couldn't have been more than eight. Her father died. Her mother left to go to the store two weeks ago. And these guys hit her. And took about the only thing she owned that was worth anything. So I took it back for her. [She didn't look away from Abe as she spoke, even though she wanted to if only to avoid seeing disappointment there. Like there would suddenly be reason for him to leave since sometimes she just couldn't control herself.] I was angry. No one should hit a child. And you don't steal from someone that can't afford it. [A sigh. Last night, they deserved it, but sitting here with Abe, maybe she had jumped the gun... maybe.] I took her to the zoo after. We played with a sloth. Then I had her pack up some clothes and stuff and brought her to her aunt who lives in the trailer park here so she would be taken care of. Then I... wanted to see you. [Hence the pre-sunrise messaging.]
