Re: Outside: Clementine & Rudy
Clementine, she'd been reared 'round men that came calling on purpose, wanting to see her of a Sunday. Wasn't that she was the prettiest gal in the county, not by any stretch of the imagination, but she was sure the richest. Her prospects were real fine, and she wasn't badly put together, and it meant the woman in red was used to being 'round menfolk that wanted to be 'round her. There were a few exceptions, like her brother-in-law and his best friend, but exceptions weren't the rule. And this man, he was like that. He didn't smile over at her starstruck, and she reckoned he wasn't inclined to make love to her with words any. Wasn't any real reason to, not far as she saw it. Any money her daddy left her, she hadn't claimed, and she didn't mean to.
"Same as you, I reckon." She smiled at him, and it was like she'd smiled at Rory outside that church. She liked uncomfortable men, and it was something she was only learning recent. Maybe that said a whole lot 'bout her. "Ain't much to do in town this late, except drinking. I went to bingo, and I don't recommend it. Not 'less you're feeling real inclined to get yelled at by old women with real bad hair dye."
She did smell sweet, and she moved closer and it was obvious. Like flowers left out to dry, and it wasn't like rot any. Could just be her perfume, or could just be she was diabetic, or could be something she sprayed in her laundry. But it was something real present, and she smiled over at him pretty. "Hope you don't mind walking company any." Her smile, it said real clear that she didn't care if he did mind, on account of her not planning on moving away.
