Re: [B&B: Nimue and Connie]
[Nimue had never imagined any other who could do as she did. She was raised to believe her gifts were unique, a result of superior Algol bloodlines, and with only the briefest of nods to a father she'd never met, a man picked because his magic was dreadful and strong. But she'd never given consideration to the possibility that others existed of her ilk, and she certainly wouldn't have pictured this girl with the rather cheap hair and the pumpkin smile.
The girl winked, and it was indicative of improper intimacies which did not truly exist, and Nimue stared with the shock of someone who was unaccustomed to people taking liberties with her person. After all, Nimue didn't socialize terribly much, not in the year 2015, and she was rather uncertain of the parameters.
She did not wink in return.
And she was terribly cautious as she watched the girl shuffle out from behind the counter. The proferred hand was regarded with distaste and a crinkle of nose. But, and not unawares, she took the other girl's hand, and she waited for what was surely to come.]
