[B&B: Nimue and Connie]
[Connie sat behind the counter of the B&B, eyes half open from post-turkey daze. Thanksgiving was spent with only her little brother, so they had leftovers that would last them weeks if they were smart about it. Today was turkey and cranberry sammiches with a side of pumpkin pie. Enough to make her fall asleep at work and that was how Connie liked it. Dressed in a blue jacket too big for her, comfy looking black pants and shoes that probably doubled as slippers, she was clearly at the height of professionalism.
She heard the girl approach (more like felt, but she'd think about that more later) and opened one eye with an unsettling smile.] Ha, what? [Her voice was pitched lower than most girls. As if she was taking this slacker thing a little too seriously. One blue eye stared at the photograph pushed into her face and something changed. Like maybe some yellow pigment started bleeding into her blue eye. Probably just a trick of light though, right?]
That's- [Connie reflexively tried to slow down time so she could process what the crap was going on, but that weird feeling from before? Well, it was like the teetering your balance does after a night of drinking. Time didn't slow, it couldn't even stutter.
She opened both eyes.
She shrugged.]
Heh, the funny thing? He didn't even tell me he was going to be at that dumb science fair that day. [Connie's shoulders moved like she was laughing, but there wasn't any sound coming out of her. The man in the picture twisted into horrible inky shadows, smiled at her and then snapped back to normal. This was all pretty messed up.]
