Public Hello Repose. For those I haven't met yet, hello, my name is Tobias. Nice to meet you all. I figured it was a good time for an introduction, seeing as I've been here six months already. Initially I was under the assumption that I would be here for an insignificant amount of time for work, but that seemed to be incorrect. I have a knack for finding old things that have value beyond sentimentality, so if you like thrift shops or antique shops, you'll probably find me in those places at any given time. I'm essentially an antiques appraiser.
My original profession, though, was as an Associate Professor of Philosophy at a university back on the East Coast, untenured naturally because I wasn't doing it for very long and I had transferred from one school to another. So if you'll humor a middle-aged man, I'd like to post occasional philosophical questions every once in a while to get some conversation going. I would prefer that to have serious answers given, but I was a college professor, so I won't clutch my pearls if I get a silly or inappropriate answer, but I will ask for an explanation, which you admittedly don't have to give as we're not in my classroom and this isn't for a grade. So, without further ado, let's get that question out there. There will be extra information connected to the question that you can read or ignore. The question itself will be in bold letters like so.
People often label many events as life-changing. Examples include, but are not limited to:
Leaving, discovering, or recovering faith
Weddings or divorces
Falling in or out of love
Meeting a best friend or worst enemy
And traveling abroad
This tends to differ from person to person depending on various factors such as upbringing, economic background, and general outlook on life, among many other factors that I won't list here. In a society closer to a Utopia than ours, people would be able to share experiences without having to worry about extraneous details and potential issues. However, we don't. With that in mind, what life changing thing should every person ideally get to experience at least once in their lives, as long as it's within their means to do so? The answer can be literally anything you would like for it to be, and does not require providing any personal information.
Please do keep in mind that these are opinions and beliefs which people hold, not facts. If you disagree with an answer given, I do request that you stay courteous in your responses.
Oh, and one last thing. If you see a man walking around with a vaguely half-dog, half-lion shaped wall of rust-colored fur, that's me. Please feel free to come and say hello. Her name is Freya, and she's very friendly (and fully trained and socialized) and enjoys being pet right below the ear, next to her mouth. I generally carry treats with me as well, so if you see us and want to say hello, but are afraid that she may not like you without some kind of peace offering, I've got you covered.
