Re: Woods: Holly and Rafe
Yeah, if Holly's husband told him he was unhappy, unsatisfied, unwhatever? Shit would so explode, but he wasn't a hypocrite about this. Even if it was terrible, he'd still want to know. That didn't mean he'd take it well, but he'd want to know. But, anyway, right... Holly was a direct guy. He was standing there, in the woods, in the middle of the night, perfectly aware that this was some more Twilight Zone shit, and he didn't like it. I mean, that probably showed on his face? His dislike of this entire mess. Noah was out of town, so Holly was counting on the guy only getting minimal input on their feedback-loop-thing, and Holly rocked on his heels slightly.
And, look, he didn't get that Rafe was service. Not yet, not with the guy in that crouch, and Holly's military experience hadn't been a party. The version of him that had died here? That guy had willingly sacrificed his life for his country; Holly wasn't that altruistic.
But, right, so he told this guy about picking Audrey up, and it was an information exchange. It was, 'hey this is what I know,' because people were always more open when you told them stuff. And Holly was curious. He wouldn't be standing out here, alone, in these fucking woods, if he wasn't curious. But... "Fuck... sulfur. Right. That's what it is," he said, and he'd been trying to place the scent, right? I mean, it had been mixed with shit, but... "Like mustard gas," he continued, because the military had equipped him with a whole lot of stuff when they'd sent him underground, including sulfur gas.
Also, though, Holly was crazy-mad into supernatural stuff. He watched countless supernatural-hunting YouTubers, and he followed a bunch of podcasts on phenomenon, so he knew that sulfur? Wasn't just about mustard gas. "Yeah, so, she definitely smelled like that. Not like it was clinging to her or something, but she smelled like it. It was gross. So, something supernatural?" he suggested, curiously thoughtful and moving to crouch, motioning before he did so, to ensure it was alright to get close to that tree. And, maybe? Not the best idea. The buzzing got louder, and his knee complained, but he managed it, you know, after a minute or two. "If it was military, I could find out. But I don't think it's military. The way Audrey looked? That shit isn't their style, even in our fucked up Top Secret Facility."
