Re: [Road: Holly NW and Audrey C]
She almost kept walking across the road. The lights had stopped and all she knew was that her feet needed to move forward, like ants crawling through her nerves they had to keep moving. She didn't know what the person in the truck was thinking, or how much he hated her. No. She didn't know the worry she had caused her closest friends. At the moment? She didn't know anything at all. Trauma, some people called it, no. Not the right word. Shock? Shock seemed closer to the choice.
From her dirt caked face she turned to face the livid voice, empty eyed and blank. Her arms stayed limp at her sides, fingers twitched now and again but that was about it. The pajamas she had put on the night she vanished were practically unrecognizable, the top was missing its bottom half so her stomach was exposed, and the shadows on her belly were not shadows at all, but bruises.
She opened her mouth. Then shut it. No sound. Click. Shut.
No one remembers you're name when you're strange, when you're strange... broke through the buzzing in her head just brief enough, but his question? His question echoed away.
She turned a little toward the light jetting jeep to stare openly at the open door, before finally setting her eyes on him. Maybe Holly recognized that look, maybe he didn't, but whatever semblance of Audrey dwelling there had retreated behind a thick fog.
