Adrian tried, with partial success, to convince himself that getting out of the case was a key step in full control of the Obscurus. He remembered reading something in college, approximately one million years ago, about the value of testing virtue. What value did his control have if it wasn't tested? How could he ever know?
He knew that this was really just raw justification, but he wavered on the edge of believing it. Maybe it was real.
He smiled in a slightly boyish way when Ren pulled him out by the hand. He grabbed his wallet (he did still have one) from the counter near the door and stuffed it into his back pocket. He gave Ren a look when he asked him if he wanted to change. "Do I need to?" It was a tease, a flash of playfulness with a grin rare for him. "Is the destination black tie?"
