Re: Audrey's house: Hugh & Rafe
The only thing Hugh was holding onto was that he had not yet found Audrey's phone and it was possible if she'd forgotten to charge it the night before, it could be dead. Maybe Repose wasn't the most up-to-date of locales when it came to Internet, but there weren't dead spots, at least not in town, so battery was the only possibility and it didn't seem that impossible. But Rafe was right. It didn't mean she was now, and Hugh bit his lip, biting down on the urge to just push in and start calling for Audrey immediately.
"I wouldn't think it's like her to leave it unlocked if she has left," was all he said aloud. If she wasn't here, then the unlocked door didn't feel like a good omen at all.
But he stepped back, allowing Rafe to take the lead once more. Without the necessity of the key, it just made sense, and honestly, it was part of why Hugh had asked Rafe. He was the one person Hugh knew who had some security training, and even though he didn't know all of the man's background, what he did know was significantly more prepared for anything they might find than anything Hugh had in his. Fencing and broadsword classes plus choreographed fight scenes - not likely to be useful if there was something dangerous in the house. That said as he followed Rafe into the living room, Hugh ran through a mental list of things he could do if Audrey was there or if there was something else, or if there was nothing apparent, in an attempt to not be completely useless depending on how things turned.
