Re: [Woods: Atticus & Eames]
Wasn't concerned with discretion. Should be, but wasn't. Had grown up in a world beneath a world. That was to say, he'd grown up seeing the dead. Knew the world wasn't a mundane place. Had never had the opportunity to think the world wasn't more than it seemed. Didn't feel the need to hide now, here, not as he had before. Was liberating. Was embracing it. Didn't wear long sleeves or tall collars. Let people think whatever they would think. Even before leaving the island, had realized this was a brazen town. Felt good to be brazen too, especially now that he could ensure his haunts didn't kill anyone new.
Chuckled. "Jealousy doesn't come from promises, even assumed ones. Comes from feelings. Can be jealous with absolutely no justification, no relationship, no assumptions. People feel what they feel. Literature is rife with stories about unrequited love and the jealousy that accompanies it." Crossed his ankles idly. "Let's not even get into non-romantic jealousy. No, think humans are envious and covetous. Just what we are. Better to accept it." His smile was a mild smirk. Had never been a passionately jealous person, but didn't need to have experienced it to know the truth of it. "But am not the voice of experience. Don't remember Steve. No clue, but Repose is interesting. No point in leaving a place when I just started exploring it." For all that he was a lazy sonofabitch, Atticus was a very curious lazy sonofabitch.
