Kit expected the punchline. He'd spent approximately half an hour in Tory's company so far, and he already expected the punchline. It wasn't that the punchline wasn't imminently ....punchable, it was that it was an obvious joke and he'd been waiting a good fifteen minutes for it to appear. "You're not remotely poorly," he observed, doctoring his coffee not one whit, before drinking it like a hardened alcoholic at a bar with a tot of whiskey.
"I was talking about the people who were extremely unwell." But the suspense novel was consuming the airtime and Kit laughed, briefly and abruptly, a pleased, hard sound in his throat, not for the brilliant lady doctor, but for the foul mouthed punctuation to the coffee break. "You're proud of making exceptional coffee, I take it," Kit said, wryly. "Your taste in novels sounds pretty lurid, too."
