[Lakeside: Hannah/Rey]
Hannah didn't really know what Rey would be like at home. She'd immediately liked the other woman that night at the house party, and she remembered their conversation on the roof with the type of gold and gauzy warmth that brought to mind summer nights and dancing around on dewy grass, and she'd liked the warmth of home, even when things were bad there. But there hadn't been anything bad that night on the roof, and she was hoping there wouldn't be anything bad here, either.
Rey answered the door, and Hannah gave her bauble-bright smile, warm and friendly, and she laughed just a little bit at the bounding and fluffy-hared good humor of the woman at the door. "Hi! Thank you," she said, and she reached into her bag and pulled out a gift, which fit in the palm and was wrapped in brown paper and tied with bright silver ribbon. "It's a paperweight. My mom loved them," she said of the smooth and swirled stone, and she handed it over. "It's a thank you. Even if this doesn't work." She lifted a shoulder in a half shrug. "I appreciate you being willing to try." Here, she bit her lip, worried it a little. "Can we talk inside, first?" she asked, wanting to have the conversation before she lost her resolve.
And if Rey let her in, she followed. Her bag jingled, seven coins lining the bottom for good luck, and she clutched it nervously.
