log: adrian and ren - the cottage Who: Ren and Adrian What: Magic lessons! Warnings/Rating: TBD
Adrian waited in the grass outside the cottage. He waited, and he imagined he wasn't nervous.
He imagined Sue hadn't had something snide to say about even attempting this. He imagined he hadn't lost time again, two days ago. He imagined he was somewhere entirely different, without letting himself imagine it too well.
He closed his eyes and breathed deeply, slowly, and he grounded himself into the present. He had left his shoes behind in the cottage, and he concentrated on the feeling of his feet into the grass. He followed the feeling of the air in his lungs, just a little cool in the case's false evening. He listened to the voices of birds and fauna in the woods. They weren't really there, but the sounds could help paint him into this time and place, right here. If he stood and was mindful, he could abandon the fear, the anticipation, the ache. January was stretching long and lonely ahead of him. He counted his breaths, acknowledged thoughts as they came - thoughts of missing his brother on Christmas, thoughts of anxious isolation and lost hours, of being in school and trying again, and again, and again into the night just to master the basic charms that came so effortlessly to everyone else. They flowed past him, and he let them go.
