Living Room: Hannah & David
Hannah wasn't sure that it felt like Christmas. It was cold and blustery, and the weather had come out to declare Christmas in flurries and red noses, but Hannah hadn't felt Christmas in years and years and years. This year wasn't really any different. Si was gone, but that was kind of normal. The main difference was that she would kind of be spending the day with Jamie and Mars, and maybe it would be the beginning of traditions. Maybe, maybe, but right now she was at Dante's door with David. Being with David was easy. He never, ever expected anything from her, and he reminded her so very much of Molly. Molly, who had been more mother than sister, and who had always taken care of her and Si. Their stepmom had never really cared very much about the three older Mayer children, and maybe she'd never cared about any of them. Hannah had to think that if she had loved any of them, even a little, she would've convinced Dad not to send Mars away, but that hadn't happened. And Hannah loved her dad. She loved her dad so much, and she'd always been closer to him than anyone else, but that didn't make what he'd done right.
But tonight she didn't want to think about Dad.
She was warm, and she held a box with carnival treats in her hand. She hadn't asked what she should bring, and these had been free, but she figured people liked bear claws and elephant ears and funnel cakes. And she was glad David was with her. Had she already said that? She didn't know Dante, and she had no idea who would be there, and it was always nice to have someone safe and familiar with her. She figured they could be here a few hours, and then they could head to Jamie and Mars' place, where they could be really low-key.
She smiled over at David, handed him the box of treats, and then knocked once before turning the knob and stepping inside the apartment. In the living room, there was a cheery fireplace, and people mingled, and Hannah thought it would be a nice place to catch up with David a little.
