Re: Electronics Shop Apartments: Shiloh F, Alex W
The thing about fixing, though, was that you could do it without even trying. It didn't have to be intentional. You could fix things even if your reasons weren't altruistic - even if it just came out of boredom or amusement, there was still good in that. Some people tried, sure, people like Mal and Claire and Noah who went out of their way to try to help, and even then fixing didn't have to be this grand gesture; it could be as simple as just listening when someone needed to talk. This was passive repair, and it still worked.
It worked because Alex's bad day was forgotten as he started picking out some posters for the walls - all the bands he'd listened to growing up and had rediscovered here in Repose, thanks to a musty cardboard box of forgotten cassette tapes, thanks to a second-hand Walkman provided by the guy downstairs. "A dozen, okay," he agreed, a smile on his face as he started thinking about a place that could really be his, bright and colorful and welcoming. Not just a place to lay his head but a place to really live in.
"Thank you," he said finally, softly, unsure if he'd said it before or not. Regardless, he knew it was something that needed to be said, that it was important to express that appreciation. And he went a step further, because he always did. "If you ever need something, I 'unno what I can really do for you but lemme know, 'kay?" Because he would try. Alex was the type that would try to fix things.
