Re: Boathouse: Hugh & Atticus
"Will guarantee coffee." Could do that. Had a good feeling about Hugh and success. Seemed the type who could go far. Put his own coffee mug on the wooden dock. Did feel better after the visit. Always felt better after talking to people. Talked online, but wasn't the same. Talking on the phone wasn't the same either. Talking to ghosts on radios definitely wasn't the same. Human interaction, he was finding, was something he needed more than he'd understood. Lesson learned.
Grinned. Believed Hugh would do what he said. "Give me hell if it comes to it." Was slightly melancholy about it, but that was the norm these days. Was getting bitter and sour. Knew it. Was trying to find a solution. Thought maybe the dog might help. Couldn't hurt, anyway. "Charmingly." Give him hell charmingly.
He took the cobbler gratefully. "Thanks. Nice to have something that hasn't been in a can in my cupboard." Winter left a lot to be desired on an island. "Will be careful. Let me know about the good stuff. Bad stuff too." Didn't want to sound too needy about that, so left it there. Put the cobbler between his feet.
Backed the boat out slowly, into the cold and mist of the lake. Gave Hugh a farewell wave before turning the boat in the water and heading home.
