Re: Boathouse: Hugh & Atticus
Was certainly a positive. Sitting outside in the rain would've made for a short visit. Atticus was accustomed to rainy days on the water, but he was also accustomed to being able to go below. No below in an aluminum canoe. "Not so bad," he said of the cold. "Would be nice though," he said of the heater and Hugh getting it to work. "Not telling you not to try, though." Grinned and glanced toward the basket as the dog came to sniff at his hands. Made him think of becoming a werewolf, which only marginally made sense to the man he was now. Seemed an extreme way to control ghosts. Had gotten to the point where they didn't kill people. Was good enough for him, or so he thought. Might feel different in two decades. Apparently did feel different in two decades.
"Hard to handle the mast in the rain. Would've brought the ferry, but was assuming the roof was good in here." Had seen the boathouse from afar. "Figured it would be a good place to sit. Please," he said of the coffee, and he bent at the waist to reach for it, after tossing his gloves beside him on the canoe's bench. "Good to see you too. Was hoping for a riveting conversation about becoming other people for an evening." Hadn't been, but Atticus did enjoy conversation.
Gratefully took the throw and tossed it haphazardly over a shoulder, not bothering to straighten it where it landed. Sipped his coffee, hands warmed by it. Simple pleasure. Reminded him of going out for stripers with his foster dad. Striped bass. Illegal these days, stripers. The waters were too polluted to sell them.
"Going to make the big lights your future? Red carpets? Actress on the shoulder. Actor. Whichever. Bigger house," jutted his chin over toward the already big house Hugh owned. Was joking about that last part. "Glad you feel refreshed. Been thinking about usefulness too much lately. Never thought of it before. Life kept me busy, and that was enough. Not sure what to focus on these days. But things haven't been bad. Same everything as before, for the most part. Except for the train ride." Except for the train ride.
