Re: NYC: Hannah & Hugh
She hadn't noticed him looking during the show. She hadn't noticed because she'd been so captivated, so focused on the stage and the stories there. She didn't like movies very much, and she'd thought theater would be like movies, that the singing plays would be the same kind of thing where she couldn't quite believe. But it wasn't like that at all, and seeing real people in the roles was something unexpected. But she did look over now. Over and over and over, as she sought for words to spill into the upended earth of the night sky.
"Raoul is... good. He's handsome, rich, sweet, kind, all the good things, but the Phantom is something dangerous. Dangerous, but not in a bad way, not to her, which is maybe strange? But sometimes a dangerous person can be good, if they're good to you. They're safe, there's safety in someone who can do bad things, as long as they won't do that to you." And that was a little girl talking. A little girl, a young bride, a wife after a few years of a terrifying marriage. She nodded her head, and she smiled at him. "Sometimes dangerous can be good."
But she didn't hesitate even a tiny bit when he asked about getting something to drink and eat. She nodded. "I love this city," she admitted. "It's nothing like home. Home, home, and it's nothing like the hungry house. It's nothing like Repose. Its its own thing, and its beautiful, even when it's ugly." Another nod. "I'd love to get something to eat, but it would really, really hard to resist All I Ask of You. It would be hard, but I think it's the kind of thing where you fall in love, but there's always someone else there in the back of your mind, even when you're falling, they're still there."
