Re: Recovery Center: Travis & Marta
For Travis, Marta was new. New was good. Everybody else in this was a strange, limbo-y sort of past for him. They all came from before he'd come back to Repose. Even if they were from this Repose, like Noah, or the other Repose, like Holly, it was all priors from before he'd woken up in that Facility hospital. Even his fucking family was a special kind of nightmare dredged up straight from the past.
Marta was the first connection he'd made in the after. In a way, she'd felt like his own kind of fresh start. That a;; obviously hadn't worked out too well in Travis' case, all relapsing considered. Besides, that was a fucked up thing to put on another person... but it was what it was. She'd been something new when all Travis could do was try to sink his heels back into the past. If Marta's location was any indication, maybe she had a similar sort of problem.
Travis thought that she smiled easier in the here and now than when they'd ever hung out before. That was a good thing, evidence that she must have been doing good here, hidden away from the rest of the world. Travis was smiling easy too, but it was true that he didn't look quite so refreshed as he had in weeks, or months, prior. His smile was still there and honest, especially when she touched his arm. Travis hadn't realized that he'd be a little nervous like he was. Maybe it was just the hospital-like atmosphere with the doctors and all, it felt like a bad memory to him. That was why he was running his mouth with all of the questions laid up back to back.
The tip of his tongue went click against the back of his teeth like embarrassment or apology over talking so much. He shrugged a little when she asked how he was doing. No big deal. "I'm still at the scrap yard. Started working for my stepdad a little too," although it was best not to get too specific on the details of all that. Travis took a breath and leaned back into the cushions of the couch. "Can you show me around at all?" He didn't know if they had to stay in the common room.
