Hugh nodded. "The nice thing about being involved in theatre, including some professional companies, when I was younger was that it wasn't unheard of. I might not have seen much of it on television or in films or in the books that I read, but it was at least normalized within that group at the time. I think I kind of knew instinctively my Dad wasn't going to be thrilled, but I could talk Mom." A beat. "I still can. She's always been the person in my family I'm closest too."
It was still his mom he missed the most from home, and although he did call her semi-frequently to chat, it wasn't entirely the same. Even if it was at least partially her doing that she was back on stage at all. She'd not let him continue wallowing in self-pity, and had sent him a list of auditions in the Capital and continued to hound him until he started going to them. And she'd been right. She frequently was.
Hugh's eyes widened and he murmured an exclamation as Theodore continued. There was a little embarrassment for Theo in that particular moment. Not that it was an unheard of concept in terms of the fact that Hugh had been on the internet before, but it was one thing to have people write it for fictional characters, and another when the fictional characters were you, and your husband. "I'd say I'm surprised, but maybe I'm not, but what on earth did you say?"
