Re: [Recovery: Marta & Hannah]
Really, the situation with Mars had been the only time in Hannah's life when she'd felt like removing herself was the right thing. She'd lied when her siblings came to town, and she'd done it because she thought it would be good, that her being alive without relieve their mourning a little, at least their mourning for her. But now that wasn't the right choice, and she thought right things changed as time moved on, and what was maybe right once could be not so right anymore.
Hannah wasn't good at hiding. She hadn't been good at it as Amy, and she wasn't good now, but she'd always been strange enough that people discounted things seen and said, and she'd mostly just stayed away while Marcus was alive. At first, Molly had been planning a wedding and then she'd been dead, and Jamie was always caught up with his dance, and Si was held prisoner by a needle, and Dad loved sticking his head in the sand, and hiding was easy, even for someone not good at it.
She glanced down at the hand resting on hers, and she smiled another warm, warm smile. She looked down when Marta tapped just below collarbone, a little confused and really, really curious. And then she understood, and she smiled brighter. "Oh! Don't worry," she assured the other girl, and there really was no worry. David might be bad and killing people might be bad, but she knew he'd protect anyone who needed it, including her. And Si wouldn't let anything happen to her, as much as he insisted he didn't save any people at all ever, but they'd kind of been saving each other since they were little, and that was just a twin thing. Everyone always, always assumed you were with the other, and that therefore nothing bad could happen.
Impulsively, as was her wont, she hugged the girl in the chair beside her. "Thank you." And then she sat back again. "For worrying."
She held up the camera a moment later, and she handed it over and put it on Marta's knee, if Marta let her. "Do you want to borrow it?" The button is really easy, and you don't have to load it or anything. You can take pictures!" The camera was light and easy to use, and maybe it would be good for Marta to snap pictures of reality through a lens. Sometimes that kind of thing helped, right?
