Re: [Recovery: Marta & Hannah]
Si didn't ask for much at all, so the fact that he'd asked for this meant it was important, and that was enough for Hannah to realize she'd been wrong. It wasn't that she thought she was really, really important to people, but she understood that Si was important to her, and she could easily extend that to understand that she mattered to Si in the same way.
Hannah knew all about dangerous men. She remembered what it felt like to be dragged across the upper landing of the house in Florida, and she remembered what it felt like to be thrown over, rope already around her neck. Hannah knew, and Hannah wouldn't forget, and even trying not to remember wasn't something real or that worked or that did anything or changed anything. And she knew she could die now, even now, and she knew she could be hurt and it would hurt, and Marcus had said he'd requested that specifically, but none of that was here and now, and Marta hadn't meant to bring any of it back with her words.
The touch surprised her. Not the one to her wrist, but the touch to her cheek, and she blinked dark blue eyes and then nodded back at the girl sitting next to her. "A list is good, but put David at the top." If anyone was going to protect a girl that was being hurt, it was David.
