Re: [Recovery: Marta & Hannah]
Hannah just wanted good things for the people she cared about, and she thought most people were like that. Most people wanted good things for the people they cared about, right? Maybe Hannah cared too easily, but she'd been like that most of her life, a strange combination of trust and distrust, and that was okay. It was just how she functioned, and it was comfortable to her. She wanted good things for Marta, and that was all it came down to. She wanted good things for Si too, and she wanted good things for Destiny, and onward and so on.
"Oh. Okay. Good," she said of Seven and his crankiness, but she also knew better than to think someone in a bad relationship always said they were in one. She'd spent years lying to ER doctors and urgent care clinic doctors, and they'd paid cash so many times, just so there wouldn't be a paper trail via insurance, and she knew how to lie, and she knew lots of people did. She'd gone to a shelter once, only to see girl after girl leave, and then she'd done the same, so she understood.
But, too, she understood maybe Marta didn't mean that at all, so Hannah smiled and nodded. "That's good. Really good," she said.
She glanced at the pretty window, and she chewed the corner of her lip, and then she looked back at Marta. Marta, with her inability to speak and her shaking hands, and, maybe... "If anything like that ever happens, you can call Si, okay? He helps with that a little at Hookerville," she explained.
