Re: [Recovery: Marta & Hannah]
Sometimes Marta thought people could be good. Certain people almost always were - Hannah, Derek, Aedan, Travis. Good to her at least, so that included Seven too. There were... once she started thinking about it, there were a bunch of people that were good to her. A bunch that weren't, too - but maybe it evened out? She didn't know how that part of life was supposed to work. But she probably also had a different definition of "good" that Hannah did. She saw the world from a different perspective. One where just because Seven cared enough to put her into a good rehab facility, that didn't mean he ever wanted to see her again. Like, enough care to get her out of his life for good.
But she and Hannah had settled on "maybe", each thinking their own version, so that's where it stayed.
The mirror was a hard thing for Marta. She went through times when she didn't even look at it, when she didn't even really want to see her own face. Times when the only reason she'd used it was to apply makeup carefully over bruises and cuts to make them fade into the background. When she looked, she still saw all of that under today's tired eyes and limp hair and and faded scars, and she didn't need the constant reminder of the past. She had enough of it stored away in her spotty memory to fill the days. So no, she didn't see anything pretty when she looked in the mirror these days. Not in a long time.
Which meant that the next part of their conversation continued to be confusing, comments not making sense as Hannah said them. Hannah'd told Si what she looked like, but... that wasn't exactly true, based on Hannah's own words. She could understand "his type", with the knowledge that some people were inevitably drawn to those who could easily be defined as a train wreck. Some people had unfortunately bad taste, always ending up with those who were bad for them. It would definitely be a sister-thing for Hannah to warn her brother about that. So though the "pretty" still didn't fit, the rest of it slotted together to make a sort of sense for her. So she nodded, a serious but understanding expression on her face. Yes, the expression said, it's good for you to turn your brother in a different direction.
Not that Marta expected any sort of repeated interactions in the future. Si seemed like a nice guy in their discussion, and had felt... she couldn't exactly say that her hands could tell he was good-looking in the dark, but he was solid, had a nice jawline, a broad chest, a soft mouth. Nice guy plus likely good looks meant that he could find someone other than an anonymous addict to talk to and hook up with.
And as for pictures, she smiled as she turned to gesture at the windows, the pink flowers that they'd talked about before. Her eyebrows went up in question, figuring that was the sort of photo Hannah wanted to take. Not thinking of her own photo, not even with the memory of sitting for Nel in her studio and the strangely compelling prints that were delivered to her after. The ones she'd thought were maybe good enough to show to other people.
Then Hannah asked what Seven looked like, and after a moment's derailed surprise at the unexpected question, her smile went a little bittersweet. In her mind, there were pictures of him done up for business meetings, cut-sharp suits and slicked back hair. There were moments of soft mornings with bedhead and sweatpants that hung obscenely low on hips. Arms and wide shoulders strong enough to carry her from kitchen counter off to bed. Blue eyes and enough scruff to scratch her fingers over...
so handsome
She didn't even think before typing it out. There was no question and no deep thought needed for it. The details flowed after:
kind of light hair blue eys, really sweet mostly scruffy but sometimes not shoulders/arms
