Re: [Recovery: Marta & Hannah]
It had taken Hannah a little while to come, but there were reasons for that. She was at Albin all day and every day, where it was becoming more and more evident that she just didn't understand what she was doing. And then she worked most nights, because now she wanted to save money, and Hookerville was her income, and all of that left little time for a long bus trip. But she was here, and she was glad she was here, even if being here made her more worried about a girl that she really didn't even know very well. But now Marta was connected to Si, and that mattered too, and Hannah knew she'd agreed not to contact Marta's Seven, but it took her a few seconds in that chair to maybe reconsider, even after all the advice Rabbit and Si had given her.
It wasn't that Marta looked worse. Marta looked comfortable and cozy in her oversized clothes, even if the combination of chair and clothes made the other girl look really, really small, even to Hannah and her own insubstantial size and loose clothing. But fewer dark circles and comfortable clothing didn't cancel out the fact that Marta had to reach over for a tablet to speak.
Hannah cocked her head to the side in curiosity. Confusing, she was confused, and she looked it.
"Can you not talk?" she asked with her regular candor, directness that didn't soften delivery of the question as she uncurled in her own chair and sat up and forward, paying more attention. She looked around them, as if she could find what had made Marta silent in the space surrounding. Hannah didn't trust the world very much, and it was easy to assume something bad had occurred beneath these beautifully tall windows.
"Are you okay here?" she whispered, voice quiet and quiet and low and low.
