Re: On a Fire Escape; Alex W/extra extra
The kid wasn't any older than he was, although if he was a Newsie, then he didn't recognize him. Maybe he was from Brooklyn. Could be. He didn't have any papes on him, but who did this time of night. You'd either sold them all by this point or ate it all whatever was left. With a quick nod, he reached a hand in his pocket, pulled out one of the three remaining, and handed it over, "need a light?" the question was asked with a packet of matches in his other hand. "Quite a night ain't it?"
He was used to the city and the lights and people, but this felt a little different than anything he'd ever had the fortune to experience. More like what he figured a carnival might feel like if he had money for one. He wondered if he could go down there and charm his way into some of the sweets that they had for offering. That was something for another time, maybe after he was done with this smoke.
"You here to join the strike?" He tilted his head towards the new comer.
Leading a strike felt like the sort of thing he'd been born for. As much as he'd at times ran away with his tail between his legs, or just taken the thing that was offered to him, right now he wasn't gonna do that no more. No. Right now he was gonna do the thing that was gonna take courage, cause it was for the right of everyone that he knew. The other newsies, they needed him to stand up, and they'd manage to make it happen too. "We're gonna show old man Pulitzer who's boss."
