Re: [Dream Training]
Eames enjoyed the recoil rather more than Arthur would have liked him to. It wasn't that he particularly preferred negative reactions, Eames didn't. He rolled out the sleepy smile to anyone who looked susceptible, darling and quite often they were. But it was a reaction and he was rather satisfied at provoking it when Arthur began to unravel tubing and needles as if they were a vacuum cleaner that needed putting back in the corner.
He understood, a little of how earnestness might stand in for wanting to know. Eames wanted to know, frequently and with a vigor that set him unpicking anything with a loose thread to yank. He understood Hannah wanted this, and that Arthur had had some idea it wasn't all going to go tickety-boo under there. The abruptness with which he addressed the woman's needs, darling. It was after all, precisely why Eames had said nothing but her name. That was a reaction, and a provocation, too.
"Her projections were off," Eames said, swinging his legs down from the table and sliding the thread of his cufflinks through each sleeve. "Whatever's going on in that subconscious, darling, it's marionettes and people that don't walk properly." He looked at Arthur. This had nothing at all of the flirtation to it and was intent. Eames raised one eyebrow a fraction.
"I've never met anyone who projected something like that. But it's all right, darling. Arthur can teach you the knack."
