On the shore: Marta / OPEN
She came because she'd been invited, and being invited to something was novel enough and unexpected enough that she wasn't going to turn it down. Someone had said they'd wanted her there, and that actually meant a lot more to her than Travis had probably expected when he'd told her. Granted, she was at a bit of a loss as to how to interact with people at the moment. She was in Repose on borrowed time now, she knew, counting down the days until her next trip into the city and the test that would reveal how she'd broken the terms of the contract that was keeping her out of jail. Even now, the anxiety of it burned hot in the back of her throat, only keeping panic at bay through the use of the very things that would fuck her freedom.
So it was a subdued sort of Marta that found her way to the house on the lake and wound her way through the party. She wasn't dressed for anything particularly fancy - only a step or two above what she'd wear in her rented room at Destiny's place. Thin leggings and an oversized sweatshirt, her hair pulled into a long braid that hung along her spine. It wasn't a night for too much makeup, not when her hands were stubbornly unsteady, so she was barefaced in a way that made her look younger than she was.
The entire setting was sort of dreamy, with the low lights and the murmur of music and buzz of conversation. Even though the light the fire gave off was little more than orange flickers, it still seemed too bright for her at the moment - too much a spotlight. It felt like everyone would be able to see her, be able to turn and stare and know all the things about herself that she wanted to hide away. And maybe that was more than a little paranoid, but it kept her moving past the glow until she could find someplace a little darker. The lake called, with its gentle lapping of water along the shore and around the supports of the dock. It was kind of soothing, especially with the twinkle of the lights reflected in the water. She didn't want to walk out along it though, where the people sat with their feet in the water. So instead, she kept to the shore and eventually found one of the blankets spread there.
It was still within the bounds of the party, the noise and fireglow at her back and the dark lake spread in front of her, and she toed off her shoes before stepping onto the blanket and sitting down. Knees up and arms around her shins, she rested her chin on one sharp kneecap and closed her eyes to listen to the sounds of the water.
