log: the capital - mao & vaughn
Who: Mao and Vaughn.
What: Mao gets caught having a midnight snack.
Where: Hospital in the Capital.
When: Late night.
Warnings/Rating: Lowish? Mao chews on dead people idk.
Mao was hungry. But this wasn’t the kind of hunger that could be satisfied by binging at an all-you-can-eat chinese buffet, it was more craven... He knew what it was, that growing gnawing feeling in his belly. He felt uncomfortably close to a junkie going through withdrawals. Something had to be done. Measures had to be taken. Or he was going to go crazy and do something not so good. He wasn’t a bad guy, honest! He just has needs! Though, junkies claimed the same thing when stealing out of their mom’s purses.
Sitting in the shadows by a side entrance to a hospital in the capital, Mao watched and waited. He was small, blended in with the nighttime, eyes on the door, body tense and ready. A nurse on a smoke break was all he needed, someone distracted, pushing the door open and leaving it to slowly swing shut behind them. The second he saw his chance he was through the door and down the hall, a dark blur moving with purpose.
Like Toucan Sam, he followed his nose. The hospital was full of the smell of death and dying, but he knew that what he wanted was kept apart from those who still had something to hang on to. Down where it was quiet and no patients could accidentally stumble in, down where it was always chilly. The morgue.
There was no one around, no one to see him grow large enough to push through the doors and use his claws to pull out one of the metal drawers from the wall once he found them. A middle aged woman lay there, dead from a blood clot or some other sudden but clean inner malfunction. Nothing to taint the meat.
Mao started below the knee, chewing into the cold dense flesh of a calf, twin tails swishing happily. Fangs scraped against bone, loud enough that he did not hear the approaching footsteps until they were alarmingly close. There was the screech of claws on steel, followed by a few metallic thumps as he scrambled inside the cavity left empty from the drawer being pulled out. All that the arriving person would be able to see was two bright orange eyes glaring out from the pitch black square beyond the woman’s feet.
Of course, now the woman’s corpse could not be pushed back in with him in the way.
Cursing himself for getting caught, Mao growled low in warning.
