Aleksi blinked at the question, trying to figure out of that was sarcasm. He hadn’t been great at catching that particular tone even back before, and he was pretty sure he’d be even worse at it now. The wink helped, sort of, in that he inferred she wasn’t serious with the request. But that didn’t help him understand why it had been asked in the first place, then. In any case, he did at least feel confident that he had gotten the bare minimum of social requirements completed.
That she smiled at Dietre - even after the whole shared dreaming experience, which Aleksi knew he’d been been a little concerned about - seemed to be reassuring. He hadn’t actually seen his boyfriend interact with many people outside of himself, and particularly not one he considered a friend. So he was, admittedly, a little curious about that.
Nodding in agreement at her assessment of their chosen topping, Aleksi couldn’t help the way one eyebrow arched up slightly at the comment regarding freshness. There was probably a reason behind it that he just wasn’t aware of, and he felt that asking for clarification might be somewhat awkward. He was grateful for the interruption of the waitress, and then again when Pippin ordered, so that it was one less thing he had to figure out at the moment.
But as soon as the woman had left to put in their request, Pippin made a statement that confused him even more. Aleksi looked at Dietre briefly, and then said apologetically, “I don’t understand the question. Was that a question?”
